A few of my aquariums :) Ok some information: Aquariums as you can see is 15 7 is 30x30x50 - the rest is different but mostly 35-45L Filtration Sponge: e-jet 104 or 103 and some u-jet 3 + several biological: such: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWhr-uCYX6Y Pumps have three: 2x Sera 550R and 1x Hailea ACO 9620 And now some of my shrimp: Thank You. I will try to put some new foto and film every few days. If you have any questions, ask. https://www.youtube.com/user/szopen2004
  3. Hi all, just wondering what Chameleon Shrimp keepers feed their Chameleons, I have plans to do a Chameleon Shrimp only tank and was wondering what foods are right, I've used Shrimp Crack in the past, what else can I look at? Algae discs?
  4. How is this even possible? Day 1 evening just before I put in some moss: Day 3 In the morning All the typus replaced by a single black cherry, meta cube still sealed. I've managed to round 6 back up and will see if it happens again. Might have a gap in my cube?
  5. I have been a long time lurker on this forum and have learnt a lot from past and present members who have contributed to this forum. Thank you. This is my first 'real' post and I hope this would help anyone who might be considering building a rack themselves. As requested by @Disciple, hope this helps you too. Just a bit of background on my experience. My only previous build attempt was for a stand and sump for a 4x2x2. It was my first build dabbling with staining wood and using silicon for sump baffles, etc. As you can see from the photos below, they are pretty amateurish but I am happy for how it turned out as a first attempt. Next step is to fit some doors to it. The stand was built following this video by King of DIY. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN4Y9AYuwcQ Anyway, this gives you an idea of the level of experience I have before I embark on my ambitious attempt to build a rack. Below are some photos of my 4x2x2, sump and stand build, and some of its inhabitants. Sorry they are not shrimp related and not of great quality taken using my phone. Stand and sump Filled up and planted. Display tank front view. Display tank side view. With background in place and tank inhabitants added consisting of altum flora discus, german blue rams, panda corydoras, cardinal tetras, otocinclus, red cherry shrimps, darwin algae shrimps and darwin red nose shrimps. Altum flora discus. Panda corydoras. German blue rams with their fry. I have browsed many build threads including some from here and have built on my ideas collectively from different sources. The specific post from @BlueBolts here: http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/topic/1415-breeding-rack-no2/ has inspired me greatly and I would like to acknowledge that. I followed the DIY rack build as outlined here: http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/topic/7063-diy-rack-for-under-50-in-under-2hrs/ The plan, materials, and costs This rack will be located in the lounge room so it has to be 'display-ish' quality and light from it must not interfere with the TV or be too blinding to people sitting around the lounge room. Also, no unsightly hoses/pipes are to be seen. I managed to convince the Minister for Home Affairs that a canister filter and chiller by definition, is not categorised as hoses or pipes, and would be in no way unsightly. The LED display from the chiller would provide subtle mood lighting, and the gentle humming of the filter and soft soothe whirling of the chiller fan would be therapeutic for lounge surfers, and would also greatly enhance movie watching experience with enriched sound depth and effects. Hence I received approval to have a canister filter and chiller located next to the rack. I used 5 x 5.4m long 90x45mm MGP10 untreated structural pine bought and cut to size from Masters for $83.75. I find Masters generally sells timber cheaper than Bunnings. Since I have both of them close to where I live, I selectively buy what I need from where it is cheaper. The frame is held together by 10-8 x 75mm zinc plated countersunk screws. I bought a box of 250 screws from Bunnings for $27.50. The rack measures 1390 x 420 x 2200 mm (L x W x H). The plan is to hold 2 x 2'x15"x15" tanks on the top and middle tier each, and a 4'x15"x15" hospital/quarantine/grow out/sump tank on the bottom tier. Each tank would be insulated by 20mm foam around the sides, back and base as I plan to run both tropical (28-30 degrees C) and chilled (22-24 degrees C) tanks on this rack. Plumbing for air and sump would be hidden within the frame. Please disregard the mess in the background. Still sorting out stuff in the garage after the move. From this: To this:
  6. I've seen a few pics of people's tank recently and they seem to have a mixture of red rilli and light blue coloured shrimp together. I'm assuming these guys don't necessarily breed true? If rilli's breed other colours do they still need to be separated, or can you then keep them all together? Or would they breed bad offspring? I've got a few shrimp tanks setup now and would love to learn more about breeding etc so I do the right thing ?

    Shrimp Foods with Fish?

Thought I'd throw a post up to see if any other members here have used or do use Shrimp foods on their fish. I have used Boss Aquaria's Shrimp Crack before and my Bristlenose have loved it, so I kept throwing in a piece here and there, now I'm out, ha, just threw in a piece of Boss Aquaria's Shrimp Snow and the Bristlenose have gone off, I mean gone nuts over it, it's messy but the Bristlenose seriously love it. Anyone else use foods made for Shrimp on fish?
  8. Hey guys Im new to shrimp and very excited about getting my tank up and ready! But I am having a bit of trouble deciding what to do about my gH, kH and pH My tanks been going just over a week and currently my parameters sit at the following- Temp:24 pH:6.2 gH:3 kH:0 Ammonia: .5 (will cycle/water change this down to 0 hopefully) and I am using Fluval Stratum I am wanting to get the ph to 6.6-6.8 and was wondering what I should do to achieve this? I have heard Airstones can help raise pH a bit, is this true? I am wanting to get my gH to 6 (not too much higher for I may eventually add crsytals to the tank and want to practise keeping the parameters in a safe zone for them as well as the cherrys). And I don't know what to do about my kH?? Some people say kH of 0 is fine for Cherry shrimp, others say it should be higher. Has anyone had any adverse effects from a kH of 0? My thought was that if its fine to keep the kH at 0 then I would use Salty Shrimp Bee gH+ to bring up the gH Really appreciate your help guys! This shrimp thing has a lot in it! Cheers, Snewls
  9. Thought I would share a few pics of the wonderful rifle shrimp that I received from Fishmosy. This is two of the males. You can see that distinctive stripe down their body. In the background basically at the bottom of the root section of the fern is a fresh moult from one of the rifles. The more I have to do with these shrimp the more I become fascinated with them. I think they are right up there as one of my favourite shrimp. This is one of the smaller male rifles. This one is more of a light bluish color and you can see how easily it would blend into its environment. Even though it's obscured there is an adult size rilli directly behind it. The look massive compared to the other shrimp in with them. I think the best picture I have ever taken of a shrimp. Couldn't do it again if I tried. I was actually able to put a tape measure up to measure the size of the rock and the rifle. The rock is approx 90mm and the Rifle is a bit over 5cm.There is a bigger one but it wouldn't co-operate to get a pic. I also noticed the differences in color of the rifle shrimp. Considering their size it is amazing how at times they are very hard to see. They blend into their enviroment very well I don't know why there are such differences in color because I believe they all came from the same area. Perhaps Fishmosy or Bob can shed some light on the reason for this. They vary from a light blue to an aqua blue, green, brown and a light orange.
  10. As promised I have a couple of photos of my shrimp to post :) I have had the Yellow Cherry Shrimp for about a week or so now, and have two berried females which is awesome. I picked up the snow white / golden bees on Wednesday, so they have not quite settled in yet but are still showing solid colour which I am happy about :) There is a few that are mostly white, but there is also a few that have a good bit of gold in them so they are a mixed bunch. But the colour is solid and most have white legs, and a couple have a hint of blue on their faces so I have solid hopes for breeding these guys more and more to get some nice white shrimp in the future :) My YCS range from juvies to adults and I have a total of 12. The golden bees/snow whites are all juvies at approx 10mm in length and I have a total of 16. So can't wait for these guys to grow up :) Here are a couple of photos (No full YCS shot just yet :( ): Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoyed the shots :)
  11. Anyone into keeping the freshwater prawns such as Macrobrachium or marine ones?
  12. Here is a video of my little shrimp room. Still work in progress, i have added 3 more tanks since then, fingers crossed i will have 2 full racks up and running by the end of the year.... Hope you enjoy
  13. First up the tank my Blackmores are living and breeding in, they share it with a couple of Darwin Red Nose, Chameleons, at least one Darwin Algea Shrimp, a growing school of spotted blue eyes and a few hundred snails. The log dominates the tank and all the shrimp take full advantage of the dark recesses of it. Most of the above pictures are of juvi or sub adult shrimp.
  14. Here we go, for a bit of fun. Things you can say about shrimp, but not about anything else. Its simple, like the TV show who's line is it anyway. You just have to come up with something that is perfectly acceptible when talking about shrimp , but not so acceptable in ordinary conversation. I'll kick us off; "I just bought a few juvenile females"
  15. Thought I would post some pics of the wonderful riffle shrimp and native moss I received from Fishmosy. They look like giants compared to y culled rilli and cherry shrimp... The shrimp loved the native moss Rare fern and native moss on driftwood
  16. Had a search on here, no mentioned previously, so I thought I'd post this as it may interest some. Has anyone heard of these before? http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/indeX.aspX?base=1114 They look interesting, I'm aware they're under the threatened species act but I feel a breeding program between hobbyist's could only mean good things for the species? pygmy_mt_shrimp.pdf
  17. There have been a few rumblings from Bob, Kiz and I about a new shrimp to the hobby, and possibly a new shrimp to science , which for the moment we will call Caridina sp. 'Malanda'. Thanks to Kiz for putting up some excellent pics of the shrimp themselves, which can be found here: Having kept both the Caridina sp. Malanda and the shrimp collected from Barney Springs (another possibly unidentified shrimp which we are calling Caridina sp. "Barney Springs", also rare in the hobby), they are quite similar in size, shape and colour and, in my opinion, could likely be the same species. These are currently with Ura for taxonomy so we will have some more info on taxonomy soon. Thanks @‌Ura. Anyway this is a report from where the shrimp were found (May, 2015). Water parameters were: TDS: 17 pH: 7.4 - Water sample was taken from within the riffles which would tend to cause CO2 to gas off and therefore boost pH. Temperature: 19*C KH: < 10 ppm GH: < 20 ppm Short video - excuse the rainy conditions We found the shrimp only in one specific location - just upstream of where Bob is standing, in the long grass at the edge of the stream. We sampled further upstream, across the other side of the creek and downstream, and found none, including in areas where the grass was growing in a similar manner to where we did find them. This is just a shot from further upstream, around the corner from the above shot. The creekbed within the riffles was rock, mostly covered in algae and some silt. there were no shrimp in this area. The shrimp were found hard in against the bank, right at the interface between the water, the bank and the grass hanging into the water. The shrimp were clearly coloured by sex - females were reddish, males blue. Note the large eggs for this species = easy to breed. Male - Top Female - Bottom We also found a species of rainbowfish in the eddies at the base of the riffles, a species of gudgeon, some sponges growing on the bedrock in the riffles and some macros (Macrobrachium sp.). None were in the same habitat as the Malanda shrimp. This macro had a parasite attached - nasty!
  18. So who's interested? I've started to do some backend stuff for this if we can get it off the ground.

    Filterless Shrimp Tank

I'm thinking of turning off my Eheim 2213 in my Mr Aqua 45l tank, it's heavily planted, 8 hours of light period each day with a 2 hour break in there and Shrimp are fed every second day. Just wondering if this would be OK to run without the filter going.
  20. Hi everyone, I'd love to get some Caridina sp WA 4 - North Australian Chameleon shrimp for my aquarium but I'm having trouble finding people who sell them in WA. I have spoken to fisheries and they are happy for people to keep them as they are WA natives. Does anyone have any ideas where I might be able to get some? Cheers

    until
Hey everyone, The next Shrimp Club Victoria meeting is running Sunday 31st May from 12:30 - 4:00pm at the Aquarium Society of Victoria Building. Trade Table, Presentations, meet other breeders and keepers. Great opportunity to share your experiences, float ideas with other keepers and maybe find a bargain on the trade tables too. Interstate breeders very welcome!!! Hope to see you all there! :)
  22. Hi all shrimp freaks, I have been convinced by Disciple to start a shrimp rack build journal.....so, here goes!!!   I was an 'ol salty for a few years, but money put the mockers on that...after a hiatus I decided to resurrect my old 900mm cube and turn it into a planted tank......I love moss, so I decided to begin some propagation of a few types, whilst on my search for moss, I came across shrimp...BANG!!!!!!......I was hooked, dunno why, just am.....I bought a small tank with some Rillis of Gumtree, now its on for young and old....so, my thinking....   Basic design:   3 tiers of 900mm x 450 x 350 tanks with 2 Divs - a total of 9 tanks.....well!!!.... more is good right??? housed on a shelf rack I built for a clients shop some years ago..!!! A sump with matrix, noodles and some filter mat. each breed bay will have a sponge filter which I have modified to turn some K1 style media(H1 or something, from Aquotix). lighting - not sure, probably some 5w cool white flood lights!! I am pretty handy, being a trade,  but do have some heavy financial constraints from the 'social secretary' so, I'm having to experiment alternative products, buying overseas and eBay, so let me know where you find the margins please boys.......     I would welcome some feed back, so, let me know your thoughts on the set up      The Twisted Fishy....
  23. Hey guys, So a couple days back I bought two CRS in hopes of starting a colony of shrimp. I added them into my tank of 5 Red cherries. All has been well, apart from the fact that I do not know the gender of both my CRS. One of them is significantly bigger than the other, but I still have no idea. Occasionally, I will see the little one chase the bigger one around the tank, but I don't know if that means anything. It would be helpful if someone could tell me the gender of both of my shrimp, or give me some tips to observe myself. I have a photo of both of them, but it's not the best quality. Also, if my CRS are both males, would it be possible from them to cross-breed with my RCS? Help would be greatly appreciated! 24. Hey everyone just a quick question, Seen a couple of ads around for Taiwan Bees and mischlings where they say F(number). Like F3, F4, F8 etc. What does this mean? Is it something to do with generations? What F are better? If someone could explain it to me that would be great Cheers!
  25. Was taught this from 2OFUS I have suffered the catastrophe of losing a tank full of shrimp after having to bomb for cockroaches in a house we rented a while ago and left my air pumps on and my tank unprotected. Here is how you can successfully bomb for cockroaches and fleas safely without an impact on your shrimp. What you need - Lots of cling wrap. Time Towels and sheets Step 1 Step one is to wrap your entire tank(s) in cling wrap. I did this a with two layers of cling wrap which cover the glass and over the lids. You want to ensure there are no gaps in your cling wrap. Step 2 Wrap some wet old bed sheets around the top of your tank or utilise wet some towels. You then want to place the towels over the top of the tank, the idea of the sheets and towels being wet is to catch any of the pesticide particles and have them settle on the towel as opposed to entering any gaps you cant see. I utilized 3 towels for extra precaution Step 3 Repeat step 1 and wrap another layer of cling around the tank and towels. Step 4 Turn off all air pumps and wrap them in cling wrap. The last thing you want is any pesticide from the spray landing n your pump and being pushed into the water column when you turn the pumps back on. Step 5 Wrap you cabinet in cling wrap, my cabinet is an open back so was imperative that i covered it. You want to ensure any gaps in the doors and what not are covered. Step 6 Wrap any items which go into your tank in cling wrap or remove them from the room which is being sprayed. This might include things such as nets, gravel vacs, air hosing and even containers holding your food. You do not want pesticide on the outside of your container and you touch it before feeding your shrimp. Another big one is Buckets! Last thing you want is insecticide in a bucket and you do a water change! Step 7 Wear gloves or wash your hands thoroughly after removing the cling wrap and towels. It sounds like overkill but the last time i utilized this method was to deal with a flea infestation and would not put my shrimp before my families well being. Thankfully utilizing this i was able to keep both safe without 1 loss my shrimp!
