You get a once in a life time chance to pick through them and take the one's you like for a very special price!!! Only 10 to 15% of each drop makes it into this section!!~ If that!

Gday SKFers,

I hope you didnt miss me too much while I was away.

It was a long 2 weeks away from my shrimps and I was a little worried to see what I would find when I got back.

It seems my shrimp have not done so well...

@Disciple love them, i think BB are my favourite.

Just wondering also how is your RCS project going?

They are also one of my favourites too. Really happy with how the BB's are going.

My RCS project became a disaster. I put them into the tank a few weeks after it cycled. Within a month half died including the two males. I tried to use another decent male but then I was able to buy some sakura/fire red cherries. So I gave the project to someone and put the new shrimp RCS with my OEBTs. Have 2 berried ATM so hopefully they will go ok.

Thanks Ineke.

Yea when I think about how only about 7 months ago I just started putting shrimps into the different section. I am really happy with how everything has went and I am really glad I learnt so much from SKF & got so much help planning it out.

What is it about Bluebolts that we all find so appealing??? I have a tank full of Taitibee Bluebolts and 4 pure TB Bluebolts in another tank - they supposedly breed true - just a couple of years ago that would have been outside my affordability ! They are my favourite too! I still love a good Rili but no longer have any at all.

I know what you mean, I have struggled with some YCS in the same environment. It almost appears that the YCS i introduced to the new tank have struggled and even died, but their shrimplings are much stronger. The low ph i don't think really suits them...found that with RCS too.

I think it is because when the female is berried she just turns in to the most magnificent blue. Also I think it is because they look so fantastic against most substrates.

I know for myself. One of the first post I saw on SKF full of pictures of Blue Bolts and they instantly shrimp I wanted. The other was OEBT's.

Funny thing is my Chocolates are doing really well in the tank. My rili's aren't doing as well but are breeding.

I think we all fell in love with Bluebolts Bluebolts  , he had awesome shrimp and gave me my first pair . They died unfortunately and I was terrified to tell him but I did in the end. They were worth much more back then but now I don't have any problems keeping them.

Update to my last section.

Lots of mischling, tibees, taitibees and a few pintos.

Before i went on my holidays i noticed a few nice blue shrimplets but assumed that would mature into black juvies. To my suprise it seems they have continued to hold the blue which it very exciting for me.

I might clear out this tank to try concentrate on these bluish shrimp. What do you guys think?

Yeah, cancer risk was a thing I'd seen mentioned a lot when looking into gentian violet briefly. I kinda just figured it might only be as bad as the cancer risk of malachite green as well, but maybe I should look into it more. I've been doing a pretty good job of not getting it on my skin and also avoiding dunking my unprotected hands into the tank water while treating my fish at least, though. Maybe I'll just not use it once I'm done this course of medication anyways, because I know a store I can sometimes get to that's pretty distant carries both malachite green and methylene blue, and in pretty large quantities.

Can't help you with Gentian Violet, sorry. It is banned in Australia violet for potential toxicity, and even possible cancer risks. I thought it was banned in Canada as well. At least, you now know why there isn't much info on gentian violet medication and it's use. But keep an eye on the snails after a week. If it affects the snails, it might not kill them immediately. So keep checking for up to a week. Much safer options out there. No point risking your own life over unsafe products.

Hello! I have a tank that currently does not contain shrimp, but does contain neon tetras which I am currently treating for Ich, as well as some bladder snails. Shrimp will be a later addition, likely cherry shrimp but I'm still doing research just to be sure. Initially I'd intended to buy some sort of Ich-fighting product that contains malachite green after doing a decent bit of research on it, most of which indicated that it should be shrimp-safe so I'd be good if I ever needed to use it again once shrimp were actually introduced (though I should note I'm aware shrimp can't get Ich, I'm more wondering in case the tetras could get Ich again, or something else that responds to similar medication). I ended up not being able to find any MG-containing products without either having to travel quite far or wait multiple days for delivery (which I was worried could lead the Ich to be fatal), and ended up picking up 'Top Fin Ick Remedy', a product that contains gentian violet which is a triarylmethane dye like malachite green. The bottle has two slightly differently worded warnings about its use with invertebrates ("not recommended for" and "not safe for" respectively), but when I'd been researching malachite green, I'd also heard of products that contain MG but not any other ingredients that would be harmful to inverts still being branded with warnings that they could be harmful, just as a "just-in-case" since the manufacturer didn't test it on any inverts, and I'm wondering if maybe it could be a similar situation here. I'm having a very very hard time finding information about gentian violet's use in fishkeeping at all though, it seems currently extremely uncommon. What I will say though is that I'm on day 2 of treating my tetras with it, and the bladder snails seem just fine -- in fact today I noticed what looked to be a bladder snail that appeared to be newly hatched (because of its size) that I hadn't seen before that was zipping around the tank without issue. But obviously, shrimp are not snails, and bladder snails are also notoriously hardy little guys, so what I'm seeing right now could easily be totally inapplicable to cherry shrimp. It might even be inapplicable to other species of snails, for all I know. Has anyone else here ever used anything that contains gentian violet in a tank that actually does contain shrimp? Were they okay, or should I make sure to not use it once shrimp are added?

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.
