So I have been going through my hydrogen peroxide at a decent rate. I have been buying 100ml bottle from the chemist for about $8.

So I decided to mix my own 6% hydrogen peroxide to use in my oxydators.

I purchased the following

post-1014-0-99333500-1429544265_thumb.jp

One bottle of 50% hydrogen peroxide ~ $27

A bottle to put your mix in ~ got it free

Bottle of distiller water ~ $2

Measuring cup ~ $8

So for around $50 you could make about 5 litres of 6% hydrogen peroxide for your own use.

I mixed up about a litre for my own use and still have heaps left over. I worked out to get 6% I needed to mix 120 mls of hydrogen preoxide with 880 ml of the distiller water. If I were to buy a litre of 6% from a my local chemist it would cost me around $80. So there is a nice savings if you mix it yourself.

I am also sure you could get a 6% mix for less then $8 per 100 ml but I was using the cost from my local chemist. I am also sure if you shopped around you could get the things I listed for even cheaper then I did.

:D

Thanks newbreed,

I believe the cycle is complete now. Yay! And yeah mixing your own is quite easy and a lot cheaper.

Cycle day 36.

Last week after I did the 80% water change my nitrates went under 5 ppm but ammonia started appearing again so I cranked the heater again and raised ph up to above 7 again. Now the ammonia is 0 nitrites is 0 and nitrates is under 5 ppm. Finally!!

I have put 5 neo's in into one of the sections if they are ok for the next couple of weeks I'll bring the rest of my shrimp in. I'll do one more big water change a week before I bring the rest of the shrimp in.

Noticed a lot of little white worms they don't look like planaria but I used ipc but they seem to be unaffected so I still assume they aren't planaria for now.

If you find out what the white worms are let me know.

I also gave lots in a few tanks on the rack. They don't seem to cause any trouble....just gross!

Are they tiny with round body and swim in S-shape? If yes, they are good worms. They will help you to clean up uneaten food or dead plant. Blooming of their population is a sign of your tank is almost cycled. Currently, your substrate and water is full of nutrients. This usually happens with ADA AS, and LFS always claims the worm come with the AS. This is a false accusation. What I think is that ADA AS contains much more organic nutrients than other type of substrate, which will cause massive bloom of white worms and cyclop population. When it's population goes down, it will signify your tank is fully cycled. Given said that, the excess nutrients will also encourage shrimp to breed more and faster baby growing rate. Sadly, it is just temporarily. After a couple of months, the nutrients will be worn out.

This is also why I am testing out using organics to supplement nitrogen. I am hoping that it may simulate what ADA AS could do. *keeping finger crossed*

No worries. Seems like it may be the below worms SD is talking about.

Thanks SD,

That's great news that my cycle is almost complete.

Only thing is I didn't notice the worms swimming they are more crawling along the glass and substrate. When I look close they don't have the head like planaria but maybe I am not looking right ill try take a picture tonight

  • 2 weeks later...

The commando shrimp have been going fine for the last couple of week. So i am calling it and deckaring that the tank is now fully cycled.

A couple of days ago I did a 50% water change and now i am in the process of acclimatizing my tibees. The are mostly tibees males culled from jpn program but i did purchase a couple of tibee females and cbs female for them. I am also putting in a few cbs juvies that came from my crs.

Tibees chilling in the breeder box while i tried to catch them all.

They are currently being acclimatized before being introduced into their new home.

Next installment will be the Crs. Stay tuned! The 3rd installment will even better!!!

I have also caught, acclimatized and released my crs. They will share the partion with red cherries from my red rili's.

I am hoping to work on the red cherries so they become fire red quality one day.post-1014-0-22137600-1431190051_thumb.jppost-1014-0-18612500-1431190116_thumb.jppost-1014-0-68795600-1431190173_thumb.jp

Thanks Buck really appreciate it. I shall see how they go, i am in discussions to help the tibees along but i might just let them be for awhile and see what i get.

Yeah unique lol it takes a special mind to come up with crap lkke this lol. Seriously design changes way too many times and itchy fingers created this. Fingers crossed it keeps the shrimp happy. I am happy its finally sorted.

Are those Neo are PFR?

I dont really think they are close to PFR. I wish!! Lol.

They are really just culls from my red rili's. I think i would call them low grade fire reds because I dont think they would breed true and they are still not solid red. There some crack here and there. Also some parts of some legs have no colour.

But the goal is PFR. :D

Thank Wot_fan. Hopefully they are enjoying their new home.

I would swap my 20 for your 8 anytime. I am sure in a couple of weeks you will go from 8 to 40 :D

They seem to have settled in fine. A couple of gbs have molted within 30mins in the new tank i hope its a good sign.

I guess you might be wondering what is left in tge old tank.

Let me introduce to you my joint favourite shrimps. The oebt's i have 4 all up 3 juvies and one female. The 3 juvies (i think they are male) are really dark and look almost black the seller says he thinks they are royal oebts. The female is also nice but not as dark. I was only able to catch two i will try to get a few move pictures when they come out.
