A shrimp divided....

Featured Replies

Apologies for the terrible quality- I grabbed my phone when this little one came out of the bushes. He is very shy. He is from one of the fake 'purebred' shrimp I paid an extortionate price for...but very cute!

Awesome !  they are called halfsiders for want of a better name. A few people are actually trying to breed them. Newbreed ( Jamie) has a couple I believe.

Thanks Ineke,

It would be interesting to see if that paternation is transferable to offspring. @newbreed you are welcome to have him if you think the little guy can help with your project ?

I do think he has some developmental issues: he is 4 months old and lives in the same 15cm2 area in a 240 litre tank. All my other shrimp move all over the tank. He has not moved out of that area his entire life, I find that very interesting...maybe I should just leave my little shrimpy-hermit under his log arch?

Funny isn't it! I had an Extreme KK that was very tiny - it never grew very big - he liked to stay in his little few square cm's

Maybe he doesn't like to see his reflection ;)

What an awesome example of a half sider.

Sadly my ones have recently perished during my ph swing issues. I am hoping, as same parents are in tank, that more may show up, but none to report recently.

@KeenShrimp if you still have the same parents there is a chance of more. Recently Moe Poe (Shrimpart) had said she had the traits passed onto following generations, I do hope this is the case.

If you find or have more dropped let me know, I would be keen to try running a line of them for sure.

This is an interesting topic as all other animals that become half Siders birds and reptiles are also hermaphradites (the genes inside the egg developed as male and female chromosomes) people half been trying to breed half Siders in birds since the popped up in captivity with no avail keep us updated on this fella crustations may be different looks awsome by the way

Massive thanks @KeenShrimp!!!

This little stunner is settling in well! Will keep you posted on its progress!!
