Ooooo, is it a hadonni ? colour ?

Considering increasing the thickness of my substrate, is there any issues with adding beach sand ? (Just returned from the beach. Will it affect/add ammonia, nitrite and nitrate ? Any other issues ? Just weary about affecting the cycle of my tank ?

Having added another G3 recently, turnover now is x66 of water volume....LOL, anemone are loving it :-)

  • Any questions or problems let me know. Looks like you are off to a great start mate. My credentials....

I've done it before & had no problems, as to effecting the cycle, did you get the sand above or below the tide line(was the sand wet or dry)?

Yep, it's a tiny haddoni, dad thought it was a mini maxi. It's green, but I found tan, yellow, green and blue today, my first blue one I've seen.

You could use it, you'll want to make sure you rinse it though. And I may add silicates to your water which will promote diatoms. It probably won't be calcium carbonate either.

A better picture :)

It's a shame you've already bought your anemones, it would have saved you a bit if I could have sent over a couple, they're easy to collect, you just pick them out of the mud.

No haven't collected the sand, but I think I'll leave it as is.....

Matt, if you can get a Yellow for me, that'll be awesome :-) pic of their natural habitat would also be great ....

Shouldn't be a problem, I'll make sure I remember to grab you one next time we are out there, I'm not sure how soon that will be though.

I wanted to try grab some photos for you, but the water between the boat and the shore was to deep to walk across. I didn't want to get my phone wet.

However the habitat was a sea grass and mangrove bed in a lagoon, no water flow except when the tide turns and it's never deeper than a meter so very intense sunlight. The substrate is very fine sand and mud and they usually have shells and pebbles stuck to their foot. Absolutely no rock around at all and the only other dominant organism besides the sea grass that they're found with are upside down jellyfish, they're everywhere. I collected a few of those as well.

Ordered my snowflake clowns and received a SMS today that they're arriving with Toll Air Express (Airport Pick Up) this evening at 9.30pm....woohoo ! Checked the con no with the tracking, and there was no identified parcel :-(... SMS sender, and confirms arrival at 9.30pm, but the parcel was off a different system, so no tracking is available on the website. Then found out that the parcel needed to be checked by WA fisheries, and they're open only between 8-4pm.....damn it ! Note to all senders..... Send during office hours on place of arrival.

Bummer dude, lesson learnt I guess. :dejection:

hope the fish arrive safely. finger crossed! btw did u get charge for quarantine/ check?

Marched to Toll Air Express 2day, as the tracking didn't have any updates etc, and no calls were received. On arrival, the parcel was awaiting pick up.....BUT on inspection, the pair was DOA......just heading to the corner now to mourn and sulk...RIP Snowflake Clowns :sorrow:

awh sorry to hear that marcus. i've seen someone post yesterday somewhere, someone order fish like 12 discus, 10 angelfish, german ram, glass cat fish and many more in one package all arrived dead :(

  • HOF Member

Oh Damn BB what a shame! :(

Man that bites! Sorry to hear this Marcus!

Poor little fishies :-) the seller gave me two options with the DOA....1) re-send but I had to pay postage ($55), or 2) a refund less postage.....I mentioned that the fishes were poorly packed, and didn't even survive a

Bummer dude, that sucks the big one! :dejection:

Received my "refund" back from Photon Snowflake ClownFish, less the $85 Freight...extremely disappointing when packaging and coordination was done poorly by the breeder, and with only 18 hours door to door, the seller didn't feel it was his fault....WTF !

Anyway...in search for some a pair of. Picasso. ClownFish if none knows a source :-)

Picking up my 1st anemone tomorrow .....nitrates @ 1-2 ppm and Phosphates @ <0.2ppm....20% WC tomorrow morning! Before introducing the 1st anemone :-) fingers cross

Sorry to hear about the loss BB. Sorry for recommending them, I didn't deal with any shipping so I didn't realize there would be an issue.

I've found one breeder near me producing small amounts of picassos but he doesn't ship. I think Reef secrets had picassos and snowflakes for sale recently and they have a very good reputation.

Not your fault whatsoever,..... So tempted to post the events on their facebook...grrrrrrr

I'll contact reef secrets now.....

WP looking great, and tank appears stable.... Picked up the two least $$$ anemones (brown and green) today for a test trail..... Tank to Tank within 15 mins, acclimatized for an hour, and settled In almost immediately :-) nervous few days....fingers cross :-)

Stunning dude, looks amazing! :D

:jig:Awesome!

Nice looking nem!

Don't be too nervous, this species is easier than the other giant carpets. The water in their natural habitats can vary a lot over the day so yet hey can cope with some instability if that should happen. I'm sure they will do great!

Tagging along... Looking forward to the next instalment.

Woohoo, picking up the red haddoni tonight ! Super excited with how the 1st two have settled. After the red, it's the purple & blue....closely monitoring the nitrates (redsea test - undetectable) and phosphates (hanna ULR Phosphorus - 0.01)... With 2-3 5% WC per week. Definitely seeing improvement in them in colour etc.... Early days, but doing all I know....still waiting for my Zetlight 6500, but they seem to thrive with the FW 120w LED's, just not looking sexy without the blue light :-)
