My Marine Tank ...

Thanks Eshrimp. Is matrix a better option then base rock though ? More surface area etc... ? On the next filter clean, I'm planning to remove the pad, and perhaps the eheim filter media with matrix or base rock ?

Having added another G3 recently, turnover now is x66 of water volume....LOL, anemone are loving it :-)

I know matrix has heaps and heaps of surface so i would give that a go.

Have you considered running nitrate and phosphate reactors?

I was thinking of adding these to mine and doing away with the sump, i have researched and alot of people run reactors and live rock only.

Just let it settle down on its own.

Another thing I was told by someone in the know was if you have 4-5kg of liverock per fish you don't need filtration at all, only wavemakers.

It's still an awesome looking tank and I'm sure someone as smart with water chemistry as you are it will be fine in the end.

Cheers mick

Thanks...I'm sure it's a settling in period too, with the removal of the live rock.

I only have a pair of maroons....just want to ensure I over react in these circumstances to ensure the least fluctuation a a possible.

It's not the surface area you have removed with the live rock, & same with adding matrix over base rock/rubble. When you removed the live rock you removed the anaerobic bacteria in the low oxygenated middle areas or the live rock, this is the de-nitrifying areas of the rock & with the super porous matrix you don't get this effect. I have to agree with Eshrimp & suggest using live rock rubble or fragments in the canister to lower the nitrates. I have had marine setups that only have live rock as the filtration & have only done WC's twice a year, & not because of the nitrate levels either, just cause I thought it was time, lol. :thumbsu:

Super excited 2day, as my local LFS, had a white haddoni the size of a tennis ball, so small = cheap :-) been searching for one for ages, and finally have it in my tank.....also added 1 x pair of anemone crab :-)
