Wow Ineke, you are so lucky!

That will be an awesome shrimp room. You are going all professional now.

I can't wait to see more pictures!

One question though.....Where are we going to sit to eat the CAKE?

  • Another year has passed and I haven't updated this thread in that time. I'm not sure why a lot of the pictures are missing but I think it has something to do with the forum upgrade so I will put a few

  • The tanks have just been trimmed and also because of the mirror backs it's a bit hard to get a front view without seeing the camera and me in the back ground. They aren't landscaped for looks just for

We went and bought the rest of the wood today but at a temperature of 38 no painting or cutting today:( on a brighter note we sourced most of the final bits and pieces for the RO system , just need a small float valve to stop the water from overflowing . I can use it without the auto cut out but would need to keep checking the water level so definitely need to find one. Also the material for the tanks to sit on has been sorted for me by Eshrimp so will go with him tomorrow to buy that but unfortunately they only have enough for half my room until after Xmas. Emanuel pointed out that the polystyrene will break easily with use and I will end up with lots of white pits in the black paint very quickly. So special waterproof sponge base it is. Looks like I will be able to move a few tanks into the room over the weekend and if the weather is not too hot the other bench will also be installed once cut and painted. I will only have half the tanks done until the sponge arrives but I can live with that.

Loving the look of the new shrimp room , can't wait to see it finished and the tanks in.

I love a bit of DIY , be good to your husband he looks like he is doing a great job on your shrimp room.

Cheers Twellsy

Thanks Twellsy hubby is definitely a keeper!!! What with the benches he is making, the ceiling fan he has to install and finishing off the RO system that Eshrimp bought for me, Alan will be a busy boy for the next few days. the damn heat is the hold up now- just too hot to work outside at the moment. It's all so exciting:D

Busy morning doing some more work in the new shrimp room- the heat had put a stop to Alan working out in the shed- so second and third bench now put in room just waiting for paint to dry on the bench top of the third bench which will be my work space.

A big thank you to Eshrimp who once again came to my rescue and ran me around in the heat yesterday to find some black sponge to put under the tanks.

Today 8 of the tanks have been put into the room waiting to be setup . Two others are a different make of tank and although similar they are not as high as the others. Will put them on the ends and decide if I can live with them.

So now the fun begins with filling them up and putting shrimp into them. One problem now is I don't need more tanks but I need MORE SHRIMP to put in them LOL does it ever stop . Pictures to follow shortly.

img]first bench<img src=second benchimg] both sides with tanks<img src=tanks all in a line waiting to be filled. Edge trimming still to be added , power boards needed and the third side bench is to go under the window. So close but not quite there. Tomorrow apart from finishing the benches properly Alan will attach a pressure pump to the RO water system ( thank you Emanuel and Fabi) and we are nearly there. Still a few things to sort especially with the RO side we need a water float to stop the auto fill, need to get some extra power boards and possibly more substrate and finish my work bench.:D

Nope next will be going 2 tanks high then 3 then a back to back rack down the middle.

No unfortunately I can't work on a rack because of back and neck injuries- I can't work with my arms higher than shoulder height nor can I do a lot of bending so no rack for me :D I am unable to balance enough to work on a step ladder either so this is it but I'm very happy or will be once the move has been done. Then I have to think about all those empty tanks in the old room????????

Looking good Ineke, careful getting more shrimp cause you'll run out of room in no time(trust me, I know, lol) then the cycle of MTS starts again & you'll need more tanks! Hahaha :smiley_simmons:

But Squiggs I will have 8 empty tanks going to waste so I can always reinstate a few:congratulatory: just need to break it easy to Alan ;)

Hahaha, don't say I didn't warn you! :smiley_simmons:

Well technically my fish room is finished- technically- the bench is finished on all 3 sides, tanks are in position, 4 tanks have been filled- waiting for the RO is sooooo slow- 5th tank will be filled in the next hour or so. 1 tank has half the remainder of my poor Chocolate colony and they seem to be doing well , I am leaving a few in my community tank as a back up. I will be doing some water testing later today to see if another 2 tanks can have a few shrimp in to trial.

I still need to look into lighting but it looks like it will be a home made effort of 2 strips of LEDs on a metal frame suspended from the ceiling- once again thank you to Eshrimp for this great idea. I also need to install my single pump instead of multiple pumps but need some air line tubing which is on order. I also need to plant out the tanks but as I am taking plants and moss from my old tanks which still have shrimp in I will need to redo and tidy up once the shrimp have been taken out of the old tanks.

I have 3 issues at the moment-

1) is sorting out power which will be from power boards but once again they are in use so will need to buy a couple more, 2) Stupidly I didn't think about backing for the tanks so you can see through to the air lines and heater cables :stupid:, but Alan to the rescue will paint a piece of thin chipboard cut to size which will be siliconed at either end of the row of tanks to hide all the workings

3)we had a misunderstanding about the edge strip -I wanted it to be put level with the sponge covering the bench so it looks level and Alan put the edge strip level with the bench so now the sponge edges can be seen. He will remove it and replace it poor guy- he had to work last night from 9 pm to 2.30 am and got up to do it for me while I was shopping. He was disappointed when I was a less pleased than he expected but it will be fixed.

Will post a few pictures when a few more tanks have been filled. I may not fill all of them just yet because I might not have enough shrimp for them all unless I raid the community tank again but then there won't be many shrimp in a huge tank. Just hope they all keep breeding to fill the empty tanks.

Sounds like it all going very well, there are always obstacles but it seems like you have them well in hand. Can't wait for the pics. :victorious:

Yes! We want pics! (and cake) :D

Pics pics pics pics ;)

Cake, cake, cake!! :smiley_simmons:

It's a bit hard to get a full view. The room is at that stage where it can just be a room to keep shrimp or if finished as I hope it to be then it will be a SHRIMP room. It will depend on the lighting and placement of power boards etc. Still deciding whether to have some shelves under the tanks or just leave the space for storing items. There will be two sets of drawers for the everyday items for feeding and treating the water. The work area is for water testing and works well. Later in the week the RO system should be finished and fill up automatically. At the moment I'm using the hose with the pressure pump to fill the tanks and the RO unit is just left on with a timer but it will have a proper shut off valve and a float to stop the water when the bin is full. It works so well and means very little carrying of water which will make life so much easier for me.%7Boption%7D[url=http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/ineke24/media/2013-12-23185140_zps72fba4de.jpg.html]2013-12-23185140_zps72fba4de.jpg%7Boption%7D[url=http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/ineke24/media/2013-12-21161147_zps7634fab3.jpg.html]2013-12-21161147_zps7634fab3.jpg%7Boption%7D[url=http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/ineke24/media/2013-12-21161132_zpsd9e5aceb.jpg.html]2013-12-21161132_zpsd9e5aceb.jpg%7Boption%7D[url=http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/ineke24/media/2013-12-21161118_zps3090fb12.jpg.html]2013-12-21161118_zps3090fb12.jpg]%7Boption%7D2013-12-23185240_zps9f4ef460.jpg%7Boption%7D[url=http://s1293.photobucket.com/user/ineke24/media/2013-12-23185421_zpsc0e8df94.jpg.html]2013-12-23185421_zpsc0e8df94.jpg
