Week 19 Update

Plants

Following ADA's dosing schedule now:

ADA Brighty K - daily

Step 2 and Special Lights - 3 days a week

HC is very healthy and growing in denser after a trim just over 2 weeks ago.

We've decided to use UG as the background plant and have moved it right to the back. It is growing now but still quite slowly. I can't figure out why but the leaves also have a white'ish appearance during the lighting period.

Hydrocotyle must be the fastest spreading plant ever. It looks great but I think we may replace it with a "mini" version of it eventually if we can get our hands on it.

Algae

After the HC trim we made the mistake of not vacuuming the carpet and this introduced green hair algae to an unmanageable extent.

Tried the One-Two Punch method which involved a heavy but quick treatment of Hydrogen Peroxide + Excel within a 30minute time span.

3 - 4 days later and there was no visible sign of algae anywhere.

We reduced the lighting period to 6 hours and are now also dosing Excel daily. Tank is remaining algae-free for now.

Fish and Shrimp

Kamikaze Crew:

  • 3 DAS, 6 Chili Rasboras
The clown killis unfortunately also all perished within a week. Suspecting that the flow might have been too stressful for them.

    New Additions:

    • 5 Celestial Pearl Danios
Will be switching to these as the main species now. They school a lot tighter, are more adventurous and cover the mid levels a lot better.

  • 2 Ottos
Super ugly giants in our tank. They are so skittish too.

    Future Additions:
Since the crystals are molting and feeding fine (female is also currently berried), we'll be looking into introducing some mishlings now.
Will be adding another 8 - 10 CPD's to complete the school too.

I have one of these also, except it's empty, sitting down the side of the house collecting dirt, dust and rain when we actually have some.   Was a good shrimp tank to have.

Hey can I ask about this. Mr aqua tank?  I see online that overseas you can buy this tank in low iron glass, but here in Australia I do not see it specified.  Is this tank normal glass? It looks really good!

thanks for any and all advice

It is normal glass unless specified.

I have one of these too, and they are perfect for shrimps.
