thanks Bluebolts... I like zebra pinto better then mosura pinto actually... zebra pinto seems to look more unique in their little way...It is the only one out of the whole bunch.. the others have CRS pattern' date=' spotted head tibee, weird looking black colored tibee...[/quote']

thanks for sharing...I'll just stalk my tanks and wait for that moment I see a pinto then :-)

I will try my best that you will succeed BlueBolts... But for your info' date=' I am a little lucky because the initial parents of my Tibees is actually a pair of Tibee with pinto genes in them given to me by an overseas friend... I did not actually start from Bee shrimp x Tiger shrimp till now... I cannot hold full credits for this little pinto... But the F1 of the 2 parent did not give me any pinto at all.. I have to use the F1 to cross back...(i need more tanks now after i started playing hybrids... crap.... my wife is going to clobber me...)

Thank you John... Just hope that all these shrimps will grow up nice and give me a chance to 'play' with them more to achieve better patterns and deeper coloration as most of them now do not have solid coloration...

Wow nice mate wish I had one of those how much is your electricity bill if I can know

Thank you bro mat... They do like to crowd around the barley straw often.. They take quite awhile to actually 'finish up' these.. Haha... Can be a good holiday food for them if shrimp keepers are going on holiday..

I will take photos of my PBL tonight and post here tonight or tomorrow.. :)

Happy shrimping everyone...

where do u get barley straw from? Here in the land of oz???

Oh and your shrimp and racks are INCREDIBLE ! I would love to know how you attached the flaps where the tank lights are? Ur rack pick is the pic I pulled off the net after a google search.. to aspire to :-)

mega drool!!! alvin those pure lines are absolutely stunning!!!!!

Im so lost for words im just going to quote. WOW.... ONE DAY!

They are actually the same as CRS and BDS/CBS.. There is a point after too much in-breeding which will cause deformation and also numbers of offspring will reduce.. So depends on how you plan.. I will breed 2 batches and cross back after a few generations..

May I indulge in a couple of questions?

1) BDS??? I am unsure of the meaning

2)'I will breed 3 batches and cross back after. Few generation'?

New to yje crs cbs world and learning so I may start right when I do finally branch out.

Any help is appreciated Alvin.

:-)

another issue is that there are heat emitting out from the lights inside' date=' by covering/closing that portion, the heat builds up inside and the tank's water temp go up quite a bit just from the lights...)[/quote']

Thanks for the heads up I would only use it for winter and not in summer.... this would cut down my electicity cost :-) see alterior motives lol

I would so love to pick your brain on how to start a breeding program ... I have my 6 tanks and am still stuck on how to divide them. Anu suggestions welcome. Also how do you divide your breeding groups , do you use breed nets ? New to the rack system and starting to breed so any noob info welcome.

Thanks for compliments mrguppy...my utilities bills (water and electricity) is about $200-$300 (Singapore Dollars) monthly. Considered quite a huge amount... :(

I dont know if barley straw or barley straw pellets are available in OZ.. need to check with other hobbyist for this...

Thank you so much for your compliments.. Those flaps are actually pasted with velcro so that i can take them out when i dont need them.. anyway i am not using those anymore because i do not want the heat to be stuck inside that area..

1. BDS (Black Diamond Shrimp) or CBS (Crystal Black Shrimp) they are the same.. Just that different country naming it differently..2. Yes.. what I meant was few generations.Glad to help as much as i can' date=' if i can... :)

Actually every shrimp keeper has their own way of breeding or selective breeding.. Also depending on what is the kind of shrimps which you want to keep.. If you ask me, i will go into Crystal Red or Crystal Black.. and do selective breeding from there.. Dont have to start all 6 tanks at a time (because in time to come, more and more tanks will be made.. i guess a lot of us here who is follow my thread knows this.. HAHAHA), try to start with 2... and get all the parameters right, add in your breeding colony... in about 3 to 4 generations, you might have already 100+ shrimps in each of these tanks.. Start another 1 or 2 tanks, and from those 100s of shrimps, pick the best of the best (you might only get 5-10pcs only).. Put these 'best of the best' into the new tank and let them breed again.. Repeat this sequence.. Its a long and enduring time to pass but trust me, the end satisfaction is really good... Of cause there are shortcuts to be done which is to purchase already good mid grades or even high grades shrimps to kick start your breeding colony, might jump your selective breeding program by 3-5 years ahead, but everyone has their own ways of doing it...Happy shrimping...

I saw a bag of it in a local pet shop, I think it was aimed at pond use actually, it wasn't too expensive (maybe $7for a bag).

If you can't find it I can buy and ship it to you(it might take me a couple of weeks to get back there though).

Ahhhh ok ! Just a different name for cbs ..phewww I thoughy I would have to add another shrimp to my wish list
Glad to help as much as i can' date=' if i can... :)[/quote']I do appreciate your time and input :-)Crs and cbs are going into the top 2 tanks which wont ba set up for a while as I really do want to in relation to the setup of the tanks and breeding setup... DO IT RIGHTOh I suffer from MTS BAD I have the rack and another 7 tanks on top of that lolCurrently in my rack I have : chocolate, blue velvet, sunkist, yellow.

Rainy Monday...

Decided to take some time to post..

It has been awhile since my tibee x tibee cross has given me one little zebra pinto baby.. I have decided to try breeding pinto.. It's not going to be easy without an initial batch to start, will take a longer time to selective breed..

After meeting with Mura (Germany) during Aquarama, I have learnt a lot about pinto's patterns.. So decided to try 'Skunk' pinto.. It's a pinto but with a streak of white/bluish line across the top of its head..

Here are some of the photos to share with fellow hobbyist..

Beautiful shrimp and as always thank you for sharing and imparting your wisdom to SKF members.[/quote']Haha.. Time to get more tanks up and running for me.. Just the old saying when it comes to shrimp keeping 'you will always have not enough tanks'...Thanks!! I think i am just lucky to have easy access to all these shrimps (at a cost of cause).. Right now is back to the waiting game to see how are the offsprings will be like and more time to spend on selective breeding...Thanks ineke.... i think i have to stop spending money and get myself a decent macro lens... (macro lens are expensive... *sad* ok ok.. shrimps are more expensive then lens..)

Thanks Alvin, love your shrimp, I love the black shrimp with white strips across the back, also the red one the same, I think they are more striking, is that what you call zebra?

Your post gets better and better every time Alvin :)

just like to know do breeders in Asia feed there shrimps frozen food like blood worms ? I want to try frozen blood worms but still afraid it might introduce dangerous bacteria. Thanks

Thanks Alvin' date=' love your shrimp, I love the black shrimp with white strips across the back, also the red one the same, I think they are more striking, is that what you call zebra?[/quote']Thanks ninja.. the 'zebra' actually means the vertical stripes which goes across the shrimp's back excluding the head portion.. there are 3 main types of pinto which based on head patterns..1. the normal pinto (black head)2. spotted head pinto (2 to 4 dots on the head on 1 side, these are mainly started from Germany)3. skunk pinto (these was just found recently.. from Taiwan)Out of these 3 main types, each of them has 2 (to my knowledge) sub category.. But i think there is a more in-depth categorizing method but it is too profound for me at the moment.. haha..1. zebra (vertical stripes across their back)2. mosura (white/bluish body or 70-80% coverage of their body are white/bluish leaving the lower abdomen)So in general, there are like:1. normal pinto (zebra & mosura)2. spotted head pinto (zebra & mosura)3. skunk pinto (zebra & mosura)Thank you MrShrimp... :)Frozen bloodworm should have already been deep freeze and their bacteria level should be at the lowest.. I do feed them a long long time ago.. its a very cute feeding you will be seeing them.. They will be holding on to the bloodworm like holding a straw, then eating it... High in protein and i think due to the 'bloody' stench, they will react to it pretty quickly.. But here is the bad point, you can only be feeding them what they can finish.. means you have to defroze the bloodworm and PICK the worms a couple at a time to feed them.. Do not overfeed.. Bloodworm really does makes the water really really bad in the quickest time...

Gee Alvin, 9 more categories to learn, has anyone done a chart on these yet? "Stone the flamin crows" as Alf would say, Australia will never be able to catch up!!!!!

Thanks for the info, lol.

Very nice, always amazing colour and patterns I would be proud to own them :encouragement: or any of your shrimp
