Pretty sure i spotted a hydra today. Thought it was a mutated limpet as i have many of those atm. But it had limbs that were moving and when i tried to squish it against the glass they retracted. Couldnt spot anymore after that. They mustve hitched a ride from the new anubias driftwoods. 

So so so stupid.. i just dunked them in cause i was in a rush !

And to add to that.. spotted nematodes just on the waterline.

Anyone know where to source that 'internal parasite clear' in sydney ?

Or know of any other cures that i can source in sydney immediately.

These pests are unsightful !!!

If the nematodes are the little white squiggly ones get some spotted blueyes and put them in the tank, they will not bother your shrimp but will quickly clean up the Nematodes, worked for me when i did the same thing with new plant on driftwood i introduced without treating first. 

Normally when I spotted hydras I use pippettes to suck them in and throw them in the toilet bowl - one by one. Of course if you have large quantity it will be time consuming - maybe others can advise. Make sure not to overfeed them - I think we are (at least I am) like to think they are always starving like fish.

Have not spotted anymore hydras since i killed that 1 hydra.

No nematodes also since i just used tissue to wipe em off the waterline against the glass.

Could just be hiding though. Or my neons have actually done something useful for once.

But i did spot what i believe was a seed shrimp. Flea looking thing that moves in the substrate and kinda hops and glides from here to there.

 

I have controlled hydra in my shrimp tanks with the common pond snail, breed in tanks, they love hydra. If the pond snails start to become a problem, over feeding, simply place a shrimp feeder bowl with blanched Veges in it prior to lights out, not all however a lot of snails will gather ready for removal. My shrimp also eat some and their eggs, Cherry shrimp and CRS.

Easier in the yabby tank the snails eat the hydra and the yabbies eat the snails all balances out.

For what it's worth, Genchem No Planaria zaps hydra even faster than it does planaria- I only had to dose it once an never had hydra again. Not sure about the nematodes, most are not harmful in tanks.

It moves like a planaria- it's fast, but with a hammerhead shape I have not seen. Planaria stomachs and mouths are in the middle of the creature, that is how you can tell if it is a flatworm or a nematode-like creature that has a tubular digestive tract. As far as I have read, planaria are only a threat to shrimplets once they are bigger. You might want to wait for confirmation if unsure before dosing No Planaria or Planaria zero? I have never had any issues with No Planaria at all- I dose like a dewormer every 6 months. Not sure what the big guns do with theirs??

Some one mentioned detritus worms on Facebook, never seen one in the flesh so hard for me to say.
