Seiryu Stone increasing ph ?

Featured Replies

Can anyone confirm if seiryu stones increase ph ?

Tanks been running for about 2 months. Last fortnight ph has gone up to about 7.4 from 6.6.

Added few IAL and still not lowering ph

Yes it will raise pH,  as well as TDS.

Yeah my first set up I have the same issues until I took out my stone.

It definitely will. I learned the hard way also.

Yeh just dumped most of my stones and left 1. Just added a bunch of driftwood and another goldvine with anubias today.

Looking good and my shrimps love it.

Hopefully will reduce ph in a few days.

@bort how's the pH going?

  • Author

@neo-2FX Ph still high 7.2.

Gonna do a vac tonight and try 20% WC. Been topping up 5-10% not doing much for the pH.

It definitely raising ph and hardness. I was attracted by ADA demonstration when I was beginner, however, you can't see at the back at that stage, of how big is his tank and how much soil used in buffering the hardness increase. How much CO2 added to bring the ph down.

I used it with cherry, even cherry can handle the increase.

I will stay with Lava :)

7.2 is OK. My CRS are thriving in about 7.0-7.2.

Hey Bort,

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have the same issue. I've just taken two stones out. Got two more to go. PH is 7.2. I don't want to drastically take it out because it mate harm the shrimps. How's your ph now?

  • Author

@Wilzee83 still high atm 7.2-7.4 But i do still have a 5kg+ one in there lol.

Probably gonna take it out tonight after a WC. Still getting odd deaths here and there. Even tried adding IAL and alder cones doesnt bring it down.

Just depends on the shrimp your keeping aswell. Cherries and tigers are loving the PH.

But i need to reduce it for my TBs and Crystals.

@bort I did the same as well. With no luck.. I'm thinking about changing the media from my filter to seachem matrix which i heard is inert.

It could also be filter media. I bought my filter second hand so i'm not sure what media is in it. So i'll probably buy seachem matrix as i heard it's really good and inert (most importantly).
