The pictures i put up before are from a few days ago. Here is the tank in its final form. Only minor changes from here. Its influenced by alvan chans setup. A few sword plants, the ceramic plate etc. Ill throw in some sponge filters once i find a nice air pump.

Nice setup there Robert. Those filters are chained up nicely. Let us know when the tank finishes cycling

My tank didnt cycle. Ive had shrimp in it since day 1.

If you're using a matured filter, some old tank water etc .....the benibachi soil doesn't really need a cycle.....I had shrimps in my breeding rack within 2-3 days, and 200+ shrimps within 2 weeks ....:-)

Im using ADA, should have been more cautious but ive never had an issue with ADA and Shrimp. I did some really stupid things setting up this tank. The dumbest thing was using 2 2215s to cross water from one tank to another overnight. One 2215 was pumping more water then the other so i limited the flow of one and the next day about 12 hours later one almost overflowed. Opps. 3 Canisters on it now, 1 of which is 3 months mature, the other two have been seeded since day one. I dont really have any clue on testing water so im seeking matblacks expert advice sometime this week.

Marcus i agree with you that Benibachi doesnt really need a cycle. Robert I highly recommend u test your ammonia and nitrite levels and keep us updated on your progress :)

I am testing my nitrate and ammonia, im just using live SS shrimp before i add my tbs and tigers.

I just managed to cycle a tank with ADA soil in two weeks using a mature filter, 5 large water changes and a couple of different bacterial additive products. Having said that, it may still spike again, so I'm not assuming it's done yet. I have put in two tester shrimp and see how they go for a week or two.

Ive only got a red wine and 25 or so ss cbs and crs at the moment.

More livestock arriving on tuesday. Its my birthday on monday so sadly cant get them on a monday. Pics to come on tuesday.

Small Update, While i was at aquaristics today i rummaged through their driftwood mountain in search of a bigger replacement to the one i currently had.

For the bargain price of free i pick up this bad boy which is absolutely perfect and a great background for shrimp shots.

Another thing ive noticed is my shrimp are trashing my sword plants, literally eating fresh lively leaves which ive never experienced but at least they are eating, and a renewable source at that.

I picked up blood worms today and individually fed my new tbs and tigers like bb has shown before. it ensures a chance of survival.

Great work Robert, really glad you remembered/listened and hand feed the shrimps....really ensures their chance of survival, and re-assures they are all OK ! :encouragement:

Getting a good layer of biofilm on the glass at the moment which is a good sign my tank is healthy and maturing well.

Nice tank you've got going there Robert, some beautiful shrimp. Like you I'm a fan of 60cm depth tanks, just adds the extra volume and square

footage for the shrimps. Also gives them a bit of space to retreat from the front of the tank plus of course that depth just adds to it. Nice setup

Thanks Davin, I remember seeing your tanks and saying " One day ill have a massive tank like that! ". 60cm deep is just perfect with the lowered height. Generally i keep the light towards the front face of the tank and the rear half is dark so that the shrimp can retreat into the darkness when need be but they are super models and work the front like a walk way in Beverly hills.

To my surprise, i found a mishling from Dean berried up. Thanks Dean for sending me a mishling that was saddled.

One can only guess who the father is but regardless ill get some tbs or tibees. The only males that i know of in the same tank is a Blue bolt, Blonde tiger and possibly a Ruby red.

The SS CBS female that bred with a SSS CBS mishling on the 20/03/13 is still berried and carrying all her eggs. 15 days in, should see some shrimplets in a week or so.

      One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

      It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

      I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
