Finished my new setup

Featured Replies

So now that I have added shrimp to my aquarium bow I decided it was time to upgrade my current system.

First thing to note is - I'm crap at journals but thought I'd update you guys anyway......

I started with 2 standard 3ft tanks on a metal stand which I used to breed bristlenose. These are on the right of my L number system in the below pic:

I added shrimp sand, a couple of cannisters and some perspex dividers

Then thought bugger it, why not do it properly :barbershop_quartet_

Built a new rack, had custom 3ft's built divided into 3x1ft and drilled, had a sump built and then plumbed it :applause:

Hopefully I can bred some numbers to help put me back in the good books with the wife :victorious:

Awesome setup looks great.:encouragement:

Wow love your work mate. Looks like a serious set up and love the plumining. Just want to know what shrimps are you planning to keep?

Awesome setup dude, love the plumbing, it's almost surgical with it's precision, very well done :encouragement:

Aww dude that looks fantastic! I think it was a wise decision doing it properly. Far more satisfying to play with.

All you need is a TB to breed with your mishling and then you will be on top of your game. Good luck mate

Thats the plan - just have to get back in the missus good books before hitting her up for another expense :cower:

That plumbing is mega awesome!!!!!

Awesome work MIXO2U...Don't mind me asking how long did the whole project take you to complete?

Looks awesome MIX02U, good job! :encouragement:

Neo - I built the stand in a day, plumbing took two days to get right (although a lot of time was spent on computer researching, changing layout and getting components right) then a final day of fiddling tweaking it
Thats the plan - just have to get back in the missus good books before hitting her up for another expense :cower:

Oh no, once she finds out how much they are worth, your going to need all the luck you can get. Tell your missus you have the whole forum supporting you in this hobby and don't forget ninjas tigers

Thanks MIXO2U, have you had much experience building/designing racks before?

Not a lot - this is only the second one I've put together. I'm a sucker for learning on the job :onthego:

Nah, no tutes for this (although I'm sure there are plenty online). I do have some basic building knowledge so that helped a bit.

I originally got quotes for a metal rack but that was going to cost me around $450. Luckily I kept the slats from my old bed - they were 85x35 pine and pretty straight. Stand cost me $98 - and that included $59 for the cheapo drop saw!!

$300 extra to spend on the new tanks :)

Gotta love the savings from the DIY stuff, great thinking with the bed slats :victorious:
