What makes a good shrimp net? It can be materials, price, function, does it catch shrimp successfully? I've used had many shrimp nets, and the best ones, that actually catch shrimp easily, are the ones whose net stays open and forms a little cup that does not scare the shrimp into swimming the other way when you try to catch them. Because it is not obstructed and looks like an escape route, the shrimp just seem to swim right in. Unlike soft, floppy nets, that look like a barrier. These nets don't have enough stiffness to keep the net open. The solution? A cable tie cut into the appropriate length to keep the net open. Carefully place it into the net like so ... There you have it. A $2 net that will now catch shrimp like the $30 one I have. Jayc.

I do not agree. Breeders in Europe, particularly Germany reccommend culling these defects, and it is logical that they do so because the traits are hereditable. They have been breeding these shrimp longer than we have in Aus. And with the limited gene pool we have in Aus, why take the risk of allowing defects to become widely established by not culling. It is important to remember that culling to a very rigid set of traits is the only reason that we have the non-wild type varieties of shrimp that we have today.

@cory1, sorry to hear mate. But you shouldn't have received a notification as you don't have 0 posts? This process is to weed out the members that register and never post or come back. Alot of forums don't cull them as it helps to artificially inflate numbers where as I am more interested in showing the numbers of contributing members. The rules in the backend are only to send to 0 posters. I'll need to see what happened. As for premium membership, if you subscribed pre-me taking over the site, it won't autorenew. The auto renewals are only post April from memory. Hope that helps clarify things.
