New logo maybe

I am considering an update to the logo for when we change over to the newer version of the forum software. Just a consideration and no more.

I wasn't a fan of the old logo and a number of people dislike the "friendliness" of the new logo. I think somewhere in between is a more professional and elegant looking logo that most people would be happy with.

If there are some specific dislikes with current or old logo, now would be the time to tell me so that it can be considered when I look at potential logo replacements.

If I do change, I'll make the current characters into smilies so all isn't lost.

I reckon using real photos of some nice shrimp, rather than cartoonie characters would be good. A CRS, a native, and an exotic TB would be good.

Problem with using photos is that they don't translate so well onto polo's or t-shirts.

I actually like the cartoony shrimp in the logo i think the wording could do with a revamp though to get rid of the dark grey background

I'm thinking still cartoony but less "loveable" and more "elegant/professional". Simpler colours and text which also makes it easy to get onto shirts etc...

IMO it could use a change, a move to more "elegant/professional" sounds good to me.

After the swap over i didnt want to say anything but i always thought the cartoons looked like rodents. Vermin. And Nogi was their evil leader :p

This is a one of a kind shrimp forum so the imagery should reflect the same.

+1 also with Jayc's comment of using real shrimp pics. Could make a competition of best shrimp pics of the different types feature in the logo? goes down to a vote. Could be fun?

I'll post some proposals later in the week.

Won't do real photo's as they don't translate over to embroidery very well or at all. That said, we will do a SKF 2016 Calendar comp where 12 photos will get selected.

The current cartoony shrimps will go and will be replaced by a different drawn shrimp.

For me, the site is maturing since the transition of ownership, it's time for a more grown up logo  :ass:

So Nogi is Splinter and the Shrip are the Ninja Turtles?

Lol I've got some concept stuff on the way from one of this cheap crowd sourcing sites. Once I get my head around what it is I want I'll get a proper one done up. Feel free to post concepts here too.

Not an easy task finding an image to represent such a diverse community. I like the earlier simple logos offered but am also a fan of the fun casual look!! Plus, I enjoyed the original logo!!

Can't we have them all!!?! Scrolling! Lol

Actually you can 8-) You do now on this version of the forum, the old logo is still there for those that want to have that view. Just change your theme to skf - red

I think that this will be the approach:

  • Primary logo - the default logo and the one that goes on facebook, twitter, shirts etc... will be the one I get designed. This is the official face of SKF
  • Secondary logos with matching theme:
    • Logo's of the past
    • Alternative logo(s)
    • Member voted logo (e.g. one with shrimp pic)

That should satisfy 99.9% of members here lol

  • 2 weeks later...

It was great, when we were only australian based. Maybe I'll look at "internationalising" that logo.

I think the original one like got crabs said is pretty good and perhaps it's tweaked or suggested for something similar it could be great. Like bigger shrimp and obviously the Australia part removed. I could envision some countries flags coming out of the top in my head

I personally don't like any of the new ones

Don't worry, none of them are going to be the logo, they are more concepts to help come up with ideas around what works and what doesn't.

One interesting thing he mentioned was "Bacteria pressure", which I guess just means number of bacteria around.  Yet I see all these other videos from shrimpkeepers bragging about how much bacteria their filtering system holds. Also interesting is no mention of using anti-biotics to treat bacterial infection.  I think that has fallen out of favor recently.

It has been a few weeks now and I have done a couple of large water changes. I tested the water parameters this morning, GH6 and KH2, TDS 140 and PH 7.5. Obviously the PH is off but there isn't anything in the tank that should cause the PH to rise to this figure so I will just run the tank for another month with 10% weekly water changes (probably just with RO water) and see where we are at that point. The RO water tests at PH6, and the KH and GH in the tank could come down as they are at the upper limits for Caridina shrimps! There are only about 10 very small snails in there at this point, but they seem to be doing well enough.

I believe these to be very rare in Australia so you may even consider making it a longer term plan and produce your own by starting with the best CRS you can get as that is where the pure lines started! Depends how patient and interested in the project you are, but would save money as well? If I recall correctly it takes from 8 generations of selective breeding? They sell them at micro aquatic shop but do not ship to Western Australia, but that means they are available in Australia. https://microaquaticshop.com.au/products/pure-red-line-grade-ss-shrimp Good luck and just maybe smeone on here may point you in the right direction or be able to supply you with some.
