SKF TOP 10

Never mind I was brought up with no relatives in Australia-I come from Holland- I didn't miss what I didn't know and now there is always someone at the end of the line almost anytime of day. It's all what you make of it. Hubby and I are loners even when we go away we try to camp away from other people but they always gravitate to us:D

You have a new family now, it's us on SKF :)

I have been here 13 years now!

I like Australia and I do have friends over here... but they are just not as close as my friends in Germany were (and still are).

I don't know how to explain it, but it's different somehow. I also miss having family around. :(

I reckon you can never find freinds like the ones you grew up with..

I think i'll move back to Europe eventually. I just cant see myself being this far away from my family for the rest of my life. Plus the shrimps are cheaper :P

Yes, we have been thinking of going back to Europe, but it's a bit difficult for my daughter who is in the middle of high school.

But waiting only makes it harder for me to find a job over there. Can't win, really. :dejection:

Ideally I would like to live 6 month in Europe and 6 month in Oz every year. :D If only it wasn't so far apart (and so expensive to fly....)

But who would look after your shrimps?? lol

Yeah it is so bloody expensive to fly. I havent been back since 2010. Making the effort to go this year though.

Yes, I remember you saying that your mum is German. Did you grow up bilingual? My daughter speaks German quite fluently but she is soooo shy and it always takes her a couple of days to build up the courage to speak to her german friends when we are over there. :)

No, my Mum always thought that we'd grow up screwy if she spoke to us in German when we were babies for some reason! I really wish she would have done! I learnt in school but it came fairly easy to me. I used to hate speaking with my German relatives as they always used to pick holes in my grammar/ pronunciation instead of encouraging me. So they ended up thinking I was stubborn, wouldnt learn and couldn't speak it, when in fact I was pretty much fluent... lol

Oh! I hate it when somebody picks on me for making mistakes in English. My husband always laughs at me when I pronounce things wrong. It really puts you off speaking a different language  Hey, well you know what? Your German sucks too, Rex (=husband)! HAH!

Sometimes though I say wrong things on purpose to make him laugh :D

Hey, did we just hijack a thread here? :smiley_simmons:

You may have problems pronouncing words but when it comes to writing them you are top notch! Better than some of the members here and english is their first language. LOL!

Yeah I agree, your written English is brilliant!

Anyway, my Mum has been in the UK for 30+ years and she still pronounces things wrong LOL

And yep, we hijacked good! LOL :)

Oh, thank you! I need to look up some words though when I'm not sure how to spell them.

I learnt English at school for a couple of years but was never really good at it back then. :/

I think my spoken English is not too bad, at least I don't have a VERY horrible accent....usually people don't pick it as German. :congratulatory:
