So what's next

Good news , we have seen our first shrimplet and seen another 5 girls berried

I big thanks goes out to Disciple for sending me some lovely shrimp

As I have never kept shrimp before how do I plan for the future ? In other words how do you know what to cull and when to cull ? How old do they need to be ? Do shrimp change colouration as they mature and go through moults ?

I know it's early days but I really like to be prepared and maybe overthink things (so my wife tells me)

Cheers

Great work Zorba. Enjoy the journey! Yes, they will improve colour as they grow but patterns won't change.

Ideally you should cull before the culls are big enough to start breeding. Learn to sex the shrimp and then remove lower quality males, but always try to keep at least 3 males. Don't cull too many at once or you'll upset the colony. You can become more ruthless and remove poor females too once the colony has grown enough but always remember that the male quality is very important.

For me the next step is making sure i could keep the shrimplets alive and well.

Then I focused on getting my survival rates up. Learnt how to sex them and started learning how to see their behavior. For example I would learn the signs a female is ready to breed and figure how which was the female that was most likely the one ready. Signs they are under stress or when they are happy.

Also you have to decide what you pattern or variation of shrimp you like. The shrimp I sent you will throw blue velvets, reds, red rili and blue gene red rili. So you could decide you want to focus on Blue velvet or red rili. If you want a particular type then you can do as Kiz has mentions and cull for a particular type to allow it to breed true. Once that is done you can focus on improve that line.

Grats man I am really happy for you man. Please keep me updated!

Also I have been promised pictures! where are my pics! lol :eyes_on_fire:
