Treating algae infected plants, without killing the plant

Glad you found it in the US.

$50 is expensive. It's $30AUD over here for the 500ml bottle.

I can vouch that it works at the very least. Rather than try something cheaper and it kills your plants or worse, your shrimps.

Anyone else have any stories of this product yet?

This stuff is pretty good. Cleared up my glass dividers in no time. Saved me getting my hands wet. hehe

Did you treat in tank? Or did you remove the dividers?

If you treated in tank, I'm assuming you followed the recommended dosage.

Yeah whole 4ft tank as per the dosage instructions.

Should you stop adding furts? When doing this? My hair algae is growing wild, more and more everyday

What plants are you growing? - Do you really need ferts?

Hair algae will grow even without ferts. -> It's most likely too much light or photoperiod is too long or both.

Treat what you can externally in a bucket, as I described.

Everything else in the tank can then be treated using the recommended doses on the bottle, after manually removing as much as you can by hand.

pogo stellata, Rotala wallichii are the main ones

the doesage i use is 1/4 of the recommended, im using flourish and flourish excel, lights i guess i can cut down on again think about 7 hours

  • Author

You can certainly cut flourish out completely. It's mainly only trace minerals, and very little of the major ferts N, P, K.

The method I proposed in this thread is specifically for algae that has grown in between plants and is difficult to remove.

If you have to, remove the entire plant from the tank and treat it separately.

If your algae is growing on tank walls, or things that cannot be removed for external treatment , then you will have to dose the tank with Algexit. This is the last resort. I'd rather not add chems into the tank if I can help it. Eventhough Easy Life Algexit is ok for shrimps and plants.

like i said i only use 1/4 of the dosage so, guess i can cut that to like once a month.

so should i stop adding both while i dosage the algexit?

Thank you for sharing Jayc, I know what I'm saving my pennys for now so I can get rid of the green hair algae invading my mosses :goodjob:

this product does not work for me... everything still growing strong, i also stoped dosing furts ect

Double check your dosage.

How long have you been using it?

And, can you remove & treat algae infected plants or ornaments outside the tank?

If you can, you can use as little water as necessary and increase dosage. You will see faster results.

100L tank so i think it said 10ml for 100L

3 weeks tommorrow, hair algae keeps growing after i remove, beard is still there

Spot dose H2O2, that usually kills the hair algae for me. But be careful of dosage.

Use a syringe and squirt a little straight onto the algae. You may need to turn filter off if the flow is too strong otherwise it will blow it all off. I use the stuff from Coles as it's fairly diluted. Not sure how much you would use in a 100l tank but in my 350l I usually use a 5ml syringe.
