PH Meter

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I already have a TDS meter (HM TDS3), and am looking to get a PH meter, as I'm sick of doing API tests on all of my tanks.

I'm looking at the following types:

http://www.tdsmeter.com/products/ph80.html

http://www.hannainst.com.au/learn_more/c:HI+98107

http://www.milwaukeetesters.com/pH600.html

All are available in Australia, in the $40-80 range. I won't be buying a cheapy off ebay.

These things only work with special treatment (pre start conditioning/calibration/storage), and a lot of people seem to come unstuck with them that way.

Has anyone tried any of these units?

The calibration of pH probes is fairly straight forward if you follow the instructions and have access to the calibration fluids.

I have used a couple of types of pH probes similar in design and in the same price range, but not the same brand, and found them to be OK. They aren't super precise (I've often found some, but not all, can be out by as much as 0.3 pH units even after calibration) but are a good tool if you understand that limitation. Often it depends on the pH probe itself, for example two probes of the same brand - one will be out and play up, the other is pretty bang on. Luck of the draw!

The PH / temp meters look good, should look at a group buy????????????

I ended up going with this one:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/370613327207?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

It got the most consistently favorable reviews on the net (the other 2 had both love/hate stories), push button calibration and I already have the TDS meter in this brand and it's worked well.

I'll condition/calibrate/clean/store it as per the recommended procedures and see how it goes.
