Shrimp Club Victoria October 12th Meeting

Featured Replies

So thought it best i come and join the fun on this forum proper.

A small group of us in Victoria have been putting our heads together on ways to develop Shrimp Club Victoria.

For anyone unaware, we operate as part of the aquarium society of Victoria.

Here is our great announcement/Release about our next calander event.
It would be great to see everyone from Victoria come along on the day, its looking to be one no one would want to forget anytime soon.

Time: October 12th at 12:30pm
Address: 29 Grant Street, Clifton Hill, Vic.

We can officially announce after the success of our first meeting our next meet will be on Sunday 12th October 2014!

We will again have an awesome table of raffle prizes and a door prize. These have been donated by our wonderful sponsors and some wonderful hobbiests and we cant wait to show you the goodies... but we will wait till closer to the event ;)

David has secured an awesome range of exotic shrimp that will be on show during the meet. We will leave what shrimp as a surprise to the day but they are spectacular!

We've organized some talks from our local talent pool of knowledge.

One of our main shrimp gurus, the gorgeous DAVID MAI himself will be talking us through various shrimp and how they are graded or classed.
A great introduction for anyone whose starting to think about breeding goals or curious about the different quality of shrimp.

The glorious JESSLYN SAW will be sharing some of her aquascape knowledge with us. Jesslyn is at the forefront of the aquascaping hobby at the moment. She's incredibly talented and has a great following on MSS. She's also recently started a few new scapes with one under construction at the moment. We cant wait to hear what she shares with us at the meet :).

Finally the guys AZ and PAUL will return with a vengeance.
Feel free to bring a helmet cause it may include fantails or redskins being launched into the crowd again :P

As always there will be the trade table.
We encourage everyone to bring anything they may want to sell or donate to the meet. This includes anything they've bred, grown or have left over or unused to do with anything shrimp, scape or aquarium!

Plus we will have our usual fun and friendly atmosphere, with some delicious afternoon tea and tunes. :)
So everyone bring a plate to share.

See you all at the meet!!

And dont forget supper, last meet was such a great table of food would be great to match it again.

Hey James, welcome to the forum mate! I will be back for the October meeting.

On the forum most will know of David as Biggie.

The inaugural meeting was great fun and an impressive kick off. Jesslyns scaping is amazing, can't wait to see what she is sharing.

Received my ASOV membership too.

Thanks for having these days, sure many Vic SKF members will be there this time.

Cheers, jamieC

Thanks Jamie, Was on the phone to Jay on the weekend and he said i should get on here more. been a member for a while but never posted as not enough time usually.

We have lots more exciting things in the works for the ASofV, so would be great if next meet more people became members so we can fund some of these exciting adventures.

The next meet has been looking so exciting we even considered moving the date forward as we couldnt wait so long, but couldnt find a date that worked.

We will be planning next years dates soon also, so people will have plenty of notice of when shrimp nerds will be gathering.

Awesome stuff James, I'm going to get down there one day for a meeting! :thumbsu:

Hopefully for next year we can have a meet planned for school holidays/close to when Vic Betta meets so you can have a real fishy weekend.

Definitely sounds tempting dude, gonna have to make the trip again soon enough. :thumbsu:

Spend more than 3 hours in Melbourne next time.

Hahaha, shall do dude!

Plan meeting a meting to coincide with the Melbourne F1.

Squiggle and I would have an extra incentive to go to Vic.  :roadrage:

But if we have a meeting during the F1 ill be at the race and not the meeting.

Everyone should just move down to Melbourne...

Hmm, I didn't think that through thoroughly did I ?

Ooo, ooo, F1 party @ the shrimp club meeting!!!

We could feature F1 shrimp along with watching F1 on the big screen ... with Beer and Red Bull.

I do like the sound of that.

The hall has a projector, but don't think it has a tv antenna.

As we own the property I believe we are allowed to consume alcohol without any issues.

Also the current chairs are REALLY comfortable.

Problem is I don't think enough people would be into f1 to allow it to happen.

Wait until Squiggle hears about this F1 party ....

James Ray, people will come James Ray. They'll come to Iowa Victoria for reasons they can't even fathom.

That has to be the best idea I've ever heard........EVER!! I'm so there if you have an F1 meeting, although I'm not sure how beer would go with RedBull, I prefer vodka with my RedBull or Jaegermeister, lol. :jig:

Told you @lodo

@Squiggle you can have your Red Bull anyway you want it. I didn't mean mix it with beer. LOL

I like my Red Bull across the finish line in 1st place, thanks.

Mate, if your meeting is close to the track ... and you offered the hall up for accommodation (free) where I can bunk the night in a sleeping bag ... I'm sooo there as well.

@jayc lol! & I only like one RedBull crossing the finish line first, the other one can crash into a wall & whinge that someone wouldn't let him past! Hahaha.

Thought I'd quickly fill everyone in, I will also publish the official run down on here.

Amazing day, three great talks/games.

Jamie pleased everyone, especially the older guys, with grading of shrimp, and what makes a mischling and such.

Az had a great trivia game, throwing lollies at people, also he played match maker for the two little ones at the meet.

Then Jesslyn did a great talk about her inspiration and her latest scapes.

Had amazing shrimp on display (check shrimp club Vic fb page)

Had an auction which had 6 king Kong's for $200, pair of prl for $160, and my buy was a 2 line king Kong with two f8/f9 mischlings for $50!

Again, full run down will be in the aquarium society of Victoria's magazine. Will share here for this meet, hopefully we can get more people becoming members in the future.

Wow great prices for the auction :) sounds like it was a good night. Wish NSW had a club lol

It was a great day. As James said, the pricing on the shrimp at tables was cheap but the auction reserves were minimal and major bargains were had by all. Eg three confirmed female Tibees @ $150 (Pity I had spent too much in the week leading up to the event! Still managed to find some goodies!)

There were pintos on show and now I can understand why people are crazy to get them breeding, images don't do these shrimp justice!!

Jesslyn's scapes are astounding and inspirational.

A great turn out again, but more shrimp folk always welcome!

Oh yeah, don't know what it is with me and raffles, but was lucky again! Left with some great items including new Tantora IALs and benibachi foods!!

Thanks for the update - even more sorry to have missed out now. Had picked up a mate and we were on the way in when the car failed. Fatal transmission failure, death of an old car. Semper Fudge.
