:welcome:

Hello skf groovers I set up a aquaone nano 40 tank for cherry shrimp it's been up and running now for 3 weeks today all my water parameters are fine ph 7 and no amonia or nitrite or nitrate there is lots of live plants in there growing well I have put about 30 cherrys in in total 10 after week 1 another 10 after week 2 and another 10 last Monday but I've had quite a few fatalities in the tank I used water from my tropical tank when first set up to help cycling dose any one have a ideas as to why I might be losing my little cherrys temp is 21/22 I'm stumped cheers bigbear out

Hi welcome to the forum,

Are you dosing or have you been dosing plants with ferts? Could be copper?

Fish tank water can be high in TDS, especially if you use fertilisers for plants.

Do a water change with clean de chlorinated water, preferably RO.

Hi thanks for your replys no fert the only thing I've been putting in for the plants is easy carbo no copper and I've been doing 10% water changes 2/3 times a week I'm on tank water ill have to get a tds meter today I only used tropical tank water to set up after that it's been filterd tank water

Might be a case of too much water change?? It's a smaller setup and these guys are sensitive to changes in wp.

Maybe drop back to one water change a week. Also, when changing the water how quickly are you adding it. May pay to drip it in over an hour or so, less shock! IMHO

Once you get a TDS meter you'll never look back, it's amazing the difference between shrimp and fish tanks TDS wise.

All the best mate!

Ok thanks I cut back I'm off now to get a tds meter and a ro filter thanks everyone for your help very much app cheers bigbear out

Welcome to the forum mate :)

Hi skf groovers I've just been and bought a ro filter and a tds meter I just tested the water in the nano tank and it's 185 ppm is that ok for the cherry shrimp ? Any advice would be greatly app on what to do next cheers bigbear out

Hi oz shrimp thank you for the welcome and to every one else who has welcomed me skf cheers bigbear out

Hi I've got some shrimp mineral gh kh plus from the boss man what is the best way to fix the tank total water change or partial change or leave it as the tds is 185 should be between 170 to 200 so I guess it's not to far out what would you do ?

The TDS sounds pretty good for Cherries! Will let others advise on changeover to RO water!!

Hope things settle for you soon!! Don't forget to post some pics when you can!!

Thanks will post picks as soon as poss cheers

I actually did a change over about 3 weeks to R/O from normal tap.

What you need to do is remove all your shrimp and put them in a bucket with your current tank water. If you have sponge filters put them in the bucket along with some plants if your able to remove them.

.

Drain your tank as much as possible, personally i drained mine to about 25% (just to the filter inlet) cause my canister is a pain in the ass to restart due to my filter system set up. Once our R.O water is good to go refill your tank, then place lower the water in you bucket until you the water level is just about the height of the shrimp then you will want to slow drip acclimate your shrimp over a few hours.

I gravity drained water from my tank through air hose and used an air control valve on the end to adjust the drop rate. Each 45mins - hr i would increase the drop rate as you have to factor in that due to minimal water you are at risk of water temp fluctuations. When your confident they are acclimated scoop them out with net and put them in your tank :)

edit: its a good time to rescape your tank whilst your water level is down if its what you been wanting to do! :P
