I did a hardness check. but not sure how to read it. it is the aqua one carbonated hardness test. it took 8 drops for it to change. the kit said to x by 10. so that is 80, but doesn't say what is hard or soft. so I am a bit in the dark with that test. I have 1 large rock in the tank.

Sounds like that test is measured in ppm, to get dGH you need to divide it by 17.85, so yours is about 4.5dGH which is a the very low side or ok, cherries like between 4-14dGH. I'd be interested the know what your KH is? It should be between 0-10dKH. :D

is there a chance they could be dropping from lead poisioning squiggles.. having the plants in there that lozza does could the lead weights holding the stems togeather be reascting and getting them to die?

the plants weren't wrapped with lead, they had a plastic clip holding them together. sort of like a bread bag clip. I took that plant out though, as the bottom leaves started going brown.

almost a month on and my number of shrimp is down to 3 or 4 out of the original 8. they seem to be acting fine, but then again so did the others before they died. might wait another month or so and if they are still happy I might have to get some more as the tank looks dreadfully bare. I have no idea what sex the ones I have are either.

they look good

sad news. came home tonight and my female is berried no more. was only day 18. so think she has lost them. she is saddled so just have to start the long wait again. think I happy danced too soon. it was her first lot. :unhappy:

Oh no that's such a bummer! It is very common for a girl to loose her eggs on their first go though, just put it down to inexperience on her part. :thumbsu:

cant believe it. I moved the three remaining shrimp into a larger tank today. I scooped them into a container to acclimatise them slowly. saw something moving in the container and thought it was a water nymph, but no, it was a shrimplette. the babies must have survived after all. so now I have to keep their old tank running a bit longer. HAPPY DANCE TIME. :jig:

Great stuff! They are tiny when they are first hatched. Try using a torch after lights out , shine it on any moss you have and you maybe able to see them easier.

we found a few more in the old tank. at least half a dozen. on the front glass, grazing on the algae :)

  • Author

will have to keep the old tank running till they get big enough to catch. was going to pull it down.

Fantastic news Lozza, well done! :thumbsu:
