Do you cook the banana at all to make if really soft ? or just peal and serve ?

Just peel and serve.....it'll float, so just need something, skewer, fork ....to hold it down.

Cheers mate ;) will give it a go

just give the shrimpies a few hours to "banana up" cos if you leave the nana in over night like i did :redface-new: the water clouds up badly, same with pumpkin. I have found rock melon skin to be a winner too, just limit how long its left in.Would i be right in assuming the cloudiness of the water to be a bacterial bloom?....I did a few water changes anyway to be on the safe side :encouragement:

I've left banana/pumpkin overnight, and have not experienced cloudiness etc...perhaps it's due to water circulation and filter efficiency etc....

tigger, is this a newly established tank ? Whats your tank size, and filter you're using ? Perhaps you'll need to review this to ensure there's no potential issues in the future etc...

Spot on Bluebolts...3 small tanks about 10 liters with a thick growth of java moss in them about 6 months old and regular water changes, no filters or water circulation because i have been experimenting with using the moss like a vegetable filter.Of course the banana/pumpkin has overwhelmed this small system. No problems with the shrimp while feeding just a few flakes of fish food.Oh and it was only a thumbnail sized bit of very ripe banana not a whole one .

  • 1 month later...

Mine love banana also, but only while its fresh, weren't so fond of it after it was in there for a day tho

Fed them some avocado and cherry tomato today, they loved both :D

Advocado sounds interesting ! Will try it out tomorrow. Thanks !

Has anyone tried mango?

My daughter loves Mangoes too much ..... Don't think she'll be too impressed if I feed them to my shrimp...... But avocado and mangoes is on my shopping list......

Can't believe the price of avocado this year but mango is cheap and I know it's organic, lol. Tried banana today and got mixed results, from take it away to yum yum!

Wonder where I can get GEOURGOUS organic mangoes from...........nudge nudge....lol...heading to the mango farm up my end tomorrow. Use to be like $1 each now it's $2.... Still cheap I guess.

Wish I had an avocado tree as well, they are $3 each, crazy price eh?

  • 2 weeks later...

Banana's are on the shrimp menu tomorrow...... Decided to dedicate banana day for each 3rd Sunday of each month ! Didnt want it to clash with mothers day being the 2nd Sunday in May. LOL....

Mine absolutely love pumpkin, but because its only available at reasonable pricing for 6 months of the year I cut it up and freeze. Provided its sealed properly

it lasts a while and doesn't break down. Oh, and that is from raw, I don't cook it. This way just throw in a cube, it floats for a few minutes then sinks and

they descend on it pretty quickly. Same with spinach/silverbeet, frozen works well.

10 seconds after the banana is put in the mischling tank ....

None of mine go near the bananas. I keep trying every couple of weeks but no go. Maybe I feed to many other goodies:encouragement:
