Did some maintenance last night, water change, quick clean, removed some snails on the glass, it'll take time to get rid of them but oh well.

Might look at a different LED also, something not so close to the surface, or something that I can use to extend the LED I have at the moment.

  • G'day @WhySoCRS You do realize that without photo's, your tank is not real..lol

  • Just an update pic on the tank.

  • You have all you need to start. Add the Mineral powder under the substrate. And Boss Booster on top of the substrate.   If you haven't already bought a TDS meter, get one ! This link

Got a nice number of juvi shrimp, found 13 larger juvi a day or two ago and this morning found another 4 tiny juvi, so things are going well.

Fantastic news, always exciting to see babies!

I hope the snail removal is going well and not driving yo too mad. At least they are harmless and actually good if the numbers don't rocket out of hand!

Yeah just manual removal at the moment, or crushing the smaller ones for the shrimp to feed on.

I have found an assassin snail or two to be effective in keeping invasive snails down. People claim they can eat the shrimp, but I haven’t seen this or seen any reduction in shrimp numbers; they’re too fast for them.

Also, floating a slightly blanched lettuce leaf will draw many of the snails in board. You can simple remove the lettuce leaf and discard.

I don't believe that assassin snails kill shrimp, but they will eat a dead shrimp and I suspect that is what 'people' are basing that on and have seen a snail eating a shrimp and ASSUMING that the snail killed the shrimp?

Assassin snails aren't available/legal in Australia, where WhySoCRS is based so they don't have that option unfortunately for them!

Yeah Assassin Snails are illegal here in Australia.
