Feeding regime :-)

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm new to shrimp :-)

I've just populated my 17 Litre (4.5 gallon) tanks with 12 Crystal Red Shrimp

Water Parameters -
PH 7.0
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
GH 5
KH 5

Containing Driftwood, Weeping Moss and Peacock Moss

I was wondering about he feeding regime. I have fed them blanched carrot today, and have ordered  Dennerle Shrimp King Protein after reading Product Reviews. I have generic shrimp food from local aquarium for the time being.

What amount and how often to feed them is something I am not sure about.

I'd appreciate any advice :-)

Thanks

Roscoeb

I presume that I maybe haven't supplied enough info maybe??

Anyway I'll persevere with twice a week for now as that is what some people have posted on various websites etc.

@roscoeb, With only 12 shrimp you wont need to feed them much or very often.

Starting with twice maybe three times a week is a good idea. Drop in one piece of food and gauge how quickly they eat that up.

Variety is the key. Alternate the processed foods with fresh veg, leaves and you will do well.

If you leave a IAL leaf in there, the shrimp can snack on that at anytime. The Dennerle SK Protein should give them a good source of proteins, but you can also try frozen blood worms.

If you run out of ideas on what to feed your shrimp, check out the Food & Nutrition subforum.

@roscoeb I'm no expert when it comes to shrimp I have read a lot of posts on this forum some advice I have followed as it works for my shrimp. My CRS have just released their shrimplets and currently feeding them baby powder as stated on the pack two times a day, i still drop in blanched spinach or zucchini, pumpkin as well as alge pellets or shrimp sticks picked up from my LFS. Have a look at the sponsors on the forum to see what they offer. I now buy my shrimp food and product from @newbreed . You'll find a lot of mistakes people have done written up on this forum, I thank them for sharing this has been great advice to me on what not to do. Hope this helps.

That's the beauty of the forum. If we stuff up and can share it, it will save others from going through the same pains. ?
