Pisces Seiryu - What are they really?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I assume we all know that we cannot get legit seiryus anymore. But pisces claim they sell seiryu in their 8kg boxes.

I was curious so i went to purchase my first box and did a vinegar test on it.... it fizzes straight up and fizzes crazy!

Anybody know whats the go? What is the actual rock? It cant be ryouh if others claim ryouh to be safe also? And can pisces really claim they sell seiryu?

As far as I got with investigations, it seemed like the new 'Seiryu stone' might be Ying Stone from China and the base is limestone. I do not have confirmation that this is the rock that Pisces is selling.

I bought a box, one of the rocks is pretty much nearly white. especially under water. weird.

Yeah, Seiryu should be a deep blue rock under water with veins or something?

These are grey/white.

Just curious to what they really are.

But yeah, could be ying stone. Just surprised they can label it seiryu.

Am I missing something why can't we get seiryu?

I'd like to know also.

Because Japan decided on ecological conservation.

And so stopped importing Seiryu many years ago.

Anything that claims to be Seiryu now is most certainly Yingshi ( not Ying). Yingshi  is a limestone with calcite. But Seiryu has a higher quartzite content, and Quartz is more stable.

Ryuoh stone is very similar to Seiryu. You might have better chances getting Ryuoh, and they are a lot more stable compared to Yingshi.

What JayC said.
I think Japan did a good thing..

Anyways, anyone with Pisces Seiryu should test their rocks and be careful. Just a heads up.. although ive never had a problem with their rocks.. in fish tanks (Not shrimp)

my pisces seiryu raised the ph to like 8. waste of $60

My Pisces Seiryu raises gH to 16+ I wouldn't recommend it for shrimps, shame I really like the way it looks.
