Lump of clay needing moulded

Hello guys,

I am relatively new to shrimp keeping and need a newbies guide to what I'm kind of looking for!

Wee bit of background on me, I was the store support manager of a large British aquatic company and have worked and kept everything big and small for a number of years, i have kept shrimp instore before but had other staff looking after shrimp, i have now moved on to pastures new and joined the police force, so i have decided i need something wet in the house and i have had my fun of nano and pico marine so now i want SHRIMP!

My plan.... so far i have a 10 litre fluval spec, JBL Volcano substrate with JBL shrimp substrate to go on top, a single piece of rock which i intend on tying moss to... i would love a carpeted java moss tank running with PURE biological supplement balls.... so my question is.....

What next? do i plant the moss in the bare tank and allow to grow empty for a few weeks with cling film over it ? what minerals do i ACTUALLY need ? I'm planning on keeping Bees of some sort......

Any help would be appreciated :D

Welcome to SKF Blair. I hope you enjoy it here.

I see you have decided to keep some type of bee shrimp. I have not used the substrate you are planning to use but it seem like it will buffer the PH so that is good.

The key to having happy shrimp is stable water parameters. Since you are in the UK I think you may need a heater to keep the temperature at 22 to 23 degrees.

You want to make sure the tank is cycled and you want 0 ammonia, nitrites and and below 5ppm nitrates. You want to aim for 4-5 GH and 0-1 KH. The best way to achieve this is to use RO water and remineralise but if you are lucky you might get away with tap water but make sure condition it.

I hope this helps but if you need additional explanation do not hesitate to ask.
