Over last a couple months I have been frustrated over unknown cause of death - CRS, panda even toughie - cherry. Prior that unwilling to breed (now I have few pregnant maybe it's spring?) plus also unknown death too.

I cannot understand as my WP is always spot on and I even use shrimpydaddy's products - totally can't understand. WP always maintain as suggested parameters and I feed them once every 2 days.

I just dissect a pregnant CRS, took her eggs out and tried to revive by pointed the air pump outlet as suggested somewhere in this forum (or in other forum - can't remember where I read before)

I thought maybe bacterial infection? I was thinking to purchase a UV (eheim) and Genchem immuno (to boost immunity despite I already have Glasgarten glucan) as my very last attempt. I suppose after this very last attempt if my unknown cause of death still persists - I might want to wind up this shrimp hobbying. Only give me heartache so far when scoop out the dead ones and burn a big hole in my pocket.

Guys, do you reckon I should grab Eheim UV? Or other recommended brands? I cannot afford to purchase the high end UV (more than $500 one)

Any input are welcome though

 

1. if nothing works after few months, just reset the tank
2. the sign of success breeding always from getting more shrimplets, not from keeping the adult shrimp alive
3. always check if the tank already cycle

4. always start from simple setup, wasting money not good solution, more product, technique, etc = more risk
5. always start with few shrimp to check the new tank

Cherries are a hard shrimp to kill so also be mindful of any external factors like someone using insect spray etc... I once lost a bunch of cherries through a total lapse of judgement when I sprayed aluminium cleaner onto my tank light to clean it up. The residue was enough to knock out the cherries.

My suggestion would be not to spend more money on new equipment unless you are 100% certain it's something you have. Restart the tank, let it cycle and start with just cherries and see how you go.

I am just curious. Could you give us the water parameter in your tank.

Temp, Ph, Gh, Kh, TDS, Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates.

pH: 6.5-6.8, TDS: 140, temp:22-24C, 0 ammonia, 10ppm nitrite, gH:5-6. I don't have nitrate test kit, so no idea.

I have 3 tanks here. First is 4ft that subdivided into 5 sections (I try to selectively breeding especially CRS as well to get more quantity of TB - purpose is to separate them accordingly). 2nd tank is Aquaone (I think around 50L capacity) and the other one is also Aquaone (approx. 65L tank). All tanks have same WP except 3rd has higher pH (6.9-7.2) because I put tigers and cherry together.

I use RO and salty shrimps.

I reckon I might have left few choices now. First is to eliminate my assumption if they have bacterial infection by buying UV steriliser. So if this unknown cause death persists, I am pretty much left with no choice but to wind up 1st tank (4ft) and put them into tank 2 and 3. If unknown death still persists then, whatever left is left then - won't buy any shrimps anymore.

Shouldn't Nitrites be 0 ?

If your nitrites are 10ppm then that would be the cause of death. You want 0 nitrites unless you meant nitrates then 10 is slightly high but ok.

Sorry, always mistaken my nitrate kit as nitrite. No i meant 10ppm of nitrate.

Ineke mentioned in another conversation that Adelaide water is very high in TDS. I was wondering if Albash lived in Adelaide and used tap water.  Because using Adelaide tap water is a recipe for disaster. 

But it looks like Albash is in Melbourne and uses ro water,  so that hunch is eliminated.

just to prevent anyone in adel being discouraged from keeping shrimp - people do keep bee shrimps in adelaide tap successfully just need to be diligent. and cherries certainly are no problem at all.

I bred quite a variety of shrimp in Adelaide before I started using RO water . I wonder if the actual make up of the particles make a difference in the study Jayc is doing.  Our water varies during the year depending on wen the water is being pumped from the River Murray. Even though the TDS is high its "clean" particles not toxic particles. At least it's high in calcium !

the seasonal variation in pH and tds in adelaide is huge for sure !!!

i've also learnt that WP is variable in different areas of adelaide too.
