Ghost Shrimp

Featured Replies

So, I got this 38L (10gal) tank with ghost shrimp. Im going to do a leaf liter bottom around 2.5cm thick with oak leaves. Anyone else do it?

Sounds like a great biotope for shrimp.

A couple of small twigs would be cool as well.

Instead of using 100% dried oak leaves, try mixing it with 50% IAL (Indian Almond Leaves).

Its was nice chatting to you last night. I hope GC didn't scare you off.

Hopefully you will be share some pictures and get some more shrimp for your new tanks.

theres baby ghosties in my tank! id post a picture of em, but they are no bigger than - <----- that. some as small (or smaller than) a period . <---- still waiting for the leaves to dry, and to get my first check from work. then ill beable to get some IAL and put em in. right now there is two oak leaves and diatoms out the wazoo. they enjoy them ALOT and i figure since they need the calcium for their exo's the diatoms are a great source. im going to see how long it'll take until i actually have to drop more food in, and just let them feed on the diatoms. maybe ill throw in an algae wafer next week so they get variety. or maybe some spirulina pellets. :chicken_kool: im gona experiment a little and post it up. heres a picture of the current set up.

Not scared of the Boogie Man? What about The Kadachi Man! Yudda!

That's a ghetto set up Holic, 'Straight Outta Sturbridge' Yo!

Go to that creek near ya house and grab some live plant from it, even some creek sand and put 'em all in there, shrimp will love the plant life.

the breeder net is full of bioballs that get constantly moved by the HOB filter (which also helps protect the little shrimps from getting sucked in). lol ghetto moving bed for shrimp too much?

and the plant/sand idea isnt bad. i wonder how strange ill look with a 5gal bucket digging a hole in the stream. lol not that anyone will see me except maybe the wife or me mum. but they are used to me doing things like that at this point. lol.

Just tell them it's the beginning of the 'Massachusetts Gold Rush' when they catch you with a bucket putting river sand in there, haha.

'Massachusetts Gold Rush' sounds better than 'The Madman of Massachusetts', people will think you're disposing of body parts.
