  1. On the same subject but slightly different, there was a Talapia fishing comp on just recently to help rid a local lake of this pest & one of the entrants caught a 30cm Flowerhorn! Yes you read right, a 30cm Flowerhorn!! I think it's disgusting that this sort of thing goes on & I think it's incredibly irresponsible for people to ruin our waterways with unwanted livestock that they didn't know what they were getting into because they "just don't have the heart to destroy it" or just couldn't be bothered to try to dispose of it responsibly. I agree that something has to be done but targeting the responsible fish/shrimp keepers isn't the way to do it. It's always one person that ruins it for the rest of us, very very disappointing indeed.

  2. No problem. Happy to help. What a coincidence I had one lying around. A couple of SKF members have been generous in giving me stuff. Fishmosy is giving me something (thanks dude). So it's only right to share the luv. Soon this forum will be called Shrimp Keepers Forum Family, with all the generosity going on.

  4. I was about to purchase couple of things from Squiggle/Boss Aquaria. I am getting some Benibachi Mineral as well as some salty shrimp. Im loosing a few CRS when they moult and was wondering wether it is better to get Bee shrimp mineral GH+ or Shrimp Mineral GH/KH + for them to add to rain water/RO (Funds are allowing only 1 of the salty shrimps at the moment) I also have Blue cherries in there that are doing great (Thanks Ineke).

  6. I have been pretty busy working on the rack over the last week. I have had more drama's which have all stemmed from one leaking elbow on the top row of tanks. My first attempt to fix it led to me putting some nasty cracks in one of the tanks. I cut the offending elbow out but had to take the whole assembly for the inlet off that tank as well. I replaced it tonight but found another 3 leaks in the bit I just replaced... Grrr.... I have patched them up and will see how it goes tomorrow. The cracks in the tank are leaking pretty bad too so I siliconed those up and will see how it goes. I also found a flaw in my design which I will need to address down the track. I have a drainage hole in each of the 3 sections of my sump. The idea was so that I could do very large water changes if need be. So having the 3 holes allows water to gravity feed water between all of the divisions of the sump, bypassing the weirs. I will need to add another solenoid to stop the flow between divisions which is a bit of a pain and will end up costing me another $27. Apart from that it seems to be running well which has allowed me time to start on the electrical side of things. I have started putting the timers etc in place and have been planning how to wire it up. I have the basic concept right in my head and will add more to it once water changes are completely automatic. Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment but I will aim to post some within the next few days once I have reached the point where I want to be first.

  7. Your tank looks great. But you won't need Co2 ...yet. At least not for those plants you have there. So you have either more time to research, or you can skip it altogether for now.

  11. I'm pretty sure that's a clone of the Sunsun HW-304B/404B 2000Lph/2200Lph canister filters. You're in luck. I have a sunsun HW-303B 1000Lph canister, but I bought the HW-304B replacement impeller by mistake recently. I still have it sitting in my garage doing nothing. You can have it for free - or in exchange for some cherry shrimps for my new 3ft tank. pm me your address Hoang.

  14. Just discovered the most amazing thing ever. I transferred over a tile of peacock moss from my planted fish tank into this new tank. With the idea of previewing what it would look like with plants and to help with the cycling. That was 1 week ago. Just 15 minutes ago, I discovered 1 baby fish in the new tank!!! It's a Killiefish - fundulopanchax gardneri n'sukka, from my main fishtank. Must have come across on the moss as an egg, and just hatched recently. What a survivor. It gets to stay for a while until it's big enough to be move. It's earned it. Guess the tank is cycled.

  15. I think it's not done before because motor vehicle radiators are either:- a) made of copper - risking copper contamination b) aluminium - risking corrosion longer term in pH below 7.0 If you could overcome these with stainless steel, then it could be do-able. What is commercial chillers made of? But if you already have a/c in the same room, then just running the a/c to keep the room at the correct temp is sufficient and less unsightly.
