  4. Big thanks going out to JPN07 for a wonderful delivery that arrived today!! Happy, healthy cute shrimp arrived safe and sound. They have acclimatised and are exploring their new surrounds. Mate, I think you have a problem with counting. You made a generous offer to add a couple of shrimp in, but you also added a couple more! Brilliant surprise and much appreciated! Will have to get some pics going once they are settled in! Many, many thanks!

  6. I have a cull tank. I'm working on getting a aqua one betta trio. For a few crystals and maybe some of my better cherries. But of course this all depends on the keeper of finances

  7. Filters on mentioning other forums have been removed if you haven’t already noticed. They served a purpose at a time that has now long passed. Keep references to other forums civil otherwise it will get deleted. Topics pertaining to products in direct competition to what our sponsors carry will continue to be moderated. You can discuss them, just don’t link to where they can be purchased. We can’t function as well as we do without the support of our sponsors, as such we should support them where we can. Similarly, if you are aware of anyone interested in becoming a sponsor on SKF, let me know.

  9. Done. I've also configured a rule to automatically change the old name to new if someone uses it. The library articles should be updated too. Let me know if I missed any.

  10. The book that suggested the name change was published in approx. May 2013. Its not a paper in a scientific journal however it appears to have reviewed the scientific literature regarding small freshwater shrimp and found a paper by Bouvier in 1904 describing the cherry shrimp as Neocaridina davidi, which is older than the paper describing Neocaridina davidi (formerly known as heterpoda), hence 'davidi' is the correct name as in taxonomy, the oldest name is valid. The question is then, should we follow suit and change the name from davidi (formerly known as heterpoda) to davidi? I looked at the recent use of the scientific name for cherry shrimp in recent aquarium literature (including what I regard to be the best publications, Practical Fishkeeping and Amazonas) and every one seems to have switched to davidi at around the time the book came out. My view therefore is we should use davidi.

  13. Got some shrimp crack to try out. First impressions are that the shrimp really liked it. A few seconds after it went in they were lining up. The rest soon joined in. Best of all, a newly berried female showed up to feed. I'd noticed two deaths over three days in the week prior and when I tested TDS, it was 270ppm. Been a bit too lax on water changes and using the TDS meter. Did some large water changes to bring it down to 230ppm and noticed a couple of moults in the last two days. So really nice surprise to see the berried female.

  14. Update to this tank. The tank is still going great guns, plants are growing like crazy considering no CO2 addition. Made three changes besides the addition of plants and shrimp. - Added some SS mesh to the overflow just for extra security. - Changed the outflow of the sponge to horizontal to increase water movement. - Removed an elbow from the outflow of the pump to increase water movement. Added some red cherries from my choc cherries (parents). These are the best red colour, better than any standard red cherry.
