Well I know for 100% for sure theres at least 2 shrimplets. They still very tiny but growing. They are still clear but I think they are raccoon cardina babies. I notice the 2 because the tank only 8 gallon and they crawling around on the glass probably eating biofilm. They must be able to find food because I swear they are little bit bigger then yesterday. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to start showing their markings and colours? I’m unsure if they are 100% raccoon tigers the moms were also with black crystals at Big Als pet store.... which I don’t mind.

Sadly, I believe the yellow is mostly a result of lighting. I got really excited when I saw a red shrimp with yellow stripes, then he turned slightly and the light changed and he was normal... In my observations it only occurs on the shrimp who have taken on golden color instead of white. My hopes are this is evidence of localized shadow gene dominance. I am going to try breeding King Kong Yellows into this group in hopes my theory is correct. It took every bit of wisdom I had to not just order them last night with my breeder supplies, I don't want to chance introducing disease to my main colony. Ordered supplies to setup three 10 gallons and a 20 long. They will all have Matten filter dividers, so I'll have 9 segregated enclosures. Once they are up and cycled I intend to get some more blue bolt, and yellow and red King Kongs to experiment with my theory about shadow genes.

Great news and there are probably some more in the tank you can't yet see! They usually colour up in a week, it is usually gradual though. They are probably eating the biofilm on the glass of the aquarium. Many people (me included) leave a lot of the tank (especially with small tanks) covered with the biofilm, ie if there is only one side you can see into the tank, just leave the others and don't clean them when you do maintanence, of course it won't look as tidy, so that is down to the individual to decide how much they are happy to leave? I only clean the front glass. Obviously baby shrimp can only eat biofilm (or baby shrimp food) when newborn! Always exciting when you first get your first baby shrimps? Simon
