Most likely hiding. And they can hide rather well being so small. Great photo by the way. It's never easy focusing on something that small.

One mama has dropped her babies! I was able to hunt 3-4 out on the first night, as I caught her dropping them. However, over the last few days I’ve been unable to ID any babies, hope some are hiding really well! I would assume it’s unlikely that they all died. The second female should be dropping any day now, as well as the third! Very excited. The rams horn snails have exploded, going to have to rehome a lot of these buggers....

Yes, but within reason of course. You can't set the temp to 30degC to get gestation period down to 15days without killing the shrimp. ? Temps should be withing the range of 22-26 degC for the type of shrimp. Also note that temps can affect the sex of the shrimplets. Cooler 22-23 for more female shrimplets; or warmer 25-26degC for more male shrimplets. This is only for the 3-4 week duration while the mama is berried until hatching. You don't want to keep them in temps that are not close to ideal for too long. 50-50 split of sexes is around 24degC. So if you need more females, keep the temp cooler. The forum discussed this in an old post here ... https://skfaquatics.com/forum/forums/topic/4403-temperature-effects-on-shrimp-eggs-hatching-gender-of-shrimplets/

    Immaculate conception?
  5. jayc
Because it varies with temperature of the water. The most accurate way of estimating gestation period is to use this formula. Hatching days = 63 - (1.6 x water temp deg C). So if your water temp is 22degC ... 63 - ( 1.6 x 22 ) = 63 - 35.2 = 27.8 days (or 28 days rounded up).

Try a mesh breeder box next time. It’s easier to see the babies grow.

Excellent. I’m dealing with this tank and my CRS tank, which are approximately 37 and 64 liters. I’ll used the match trick. Currently, I’m trying to develop a maintenance / feeding schedule on paper for both tanks to follow. I just want to increase my consistency. How often and in what percentage are you doing water changes on your tanks?

I'm glad you got to see them, so you know they are alive and well! I used an old match (shrimp lolly stick etc) to dose Bacter AE, I would dip it into the tank about 5-10mm to wet the match, then dip it into the BacterAE quickly and knock off the excess, then swirl the match around the tank. Mine is a 30L tank and I did this twice a week! I believe any COMMERCIAL product will tell you to use more than is really necessary obviously? Simon

I spoke too soon, upon investigation after lights out with a small light, I was able to locate 5 sneaking around. These, unlike my crystals who have some whiteish-coloring when this size, are nearly clear. Hard to see. Curious how you guys dose BacterAE etc, if you dose it at all. Quantity, frequency, etc.

We chatted about that on this thread a week or so ago, take a look.

I’m looking to get some new cardinias to populate our tank that is gonna be ready soon just waiting to see the parameters stay stable after the ro system. where can I gat them from? any classifieds ? Or ty our favorite spot? any help would be appreciated thank you im in New York
  12. jayc
Yes, that is absolutely fine. As Blazepelt said, stability is the key to success with shrimp.

As I am aware as long as you keep your shrimp between 18-25 degrees centigrade. As long as there aren’t any temperature swings. Stability is key. -B

Is it ok to keep the neos and cardinias at 72-74 degrees Fahrenheit? As an all the time temp?
  16. Crabby
Okay, that’s pretty freaking awesome... so basically higher temps = quicker hatch rates? Yeah I’m aware of this, phrased my statement a bit incorrectly. She had never given birth before, so she wasn’t holding sperm from a previous mating. I bought the fish as virgins, and the only time they spent with a male while being sexually mature, was when they were shipped to me, which was over a month ago at the time. So I thought it wouldn’t have been possible for her to be pregnant. I can’t tell if she dropped though, as I have fry in that tank too now ? Also very exciting news: I just spotted that I in fact have 3 fully berried girls, not including the one with 3 eggs! So excited!

Unfortunately I’ve had more Endlers give birth, and even some fry reproducing... plus a female endler who hasn't lived with a male for over a month looks to be extremely pregnant... ? Guppies can continue to reproduce for months without mating

Thanks! I can’t seem to find a one in the tank now after the first day. So, they are either hiding really well or, they died. I suppose we shall have to wait and see!
  19. Crabby
No, she still has the 3-4 eggs now. I guess she just lost some. She isn't in with any other caridina species, so I'm guessing it's just an odd saddle. Who knows... Also, does anyone here know the gestation period for TTS? I've read 2 weeks, and 30 days from seperate websites. Not exactly close numbers... Just wondering when my girls are gonna drop. edit: just noticed I now have 3 berried girls from my 15 shrimp! yay!
  20. Crabby
Wow, that's absolutely tiny! And that's great that she popped, and the others are about to soon. Good luck with raising the little guys!
