I made the purchase for a Hailea HC130a yesterday, I couldn't wait till November 11th, just for a extra HKD100 off.

IF you think you may be tempted to get a large tank in the future and you want to then try the taiwan bee shrimp you can always transfer the cherrys to the new 190L big tank and change the water to suit Bee shrimp in this 30L. Not something for now maybe, but just a thought for the future planning! That's what I was thinking. I'm trying to walk before I can run but sometimes enthusiasm is hard to control! I;m very happy with the nano now so I'm sure I'll not get carried away.

Cheers Simon, your tanks look amazing. Will all of the different shrimps crossbreed? What do you got when you’ve got as many different types together as you have? I’d imagine they’d revert to the wild colour eventually. For this first nano set up I’ll stick to red cherry shrimp for now. I’m eyeing up a 190L for a community plus shrimp tank. Only got to convince the wife that it’s what we need!

I think I’ll look at the shrimps in Durham and make my mind up then if it’s worth ordering through the post. Ideally, I’d like to keep a nice red strain so I want to start with a dozen or so good ones. You say you don’t use C02 or fertiliser, is that in a planted aquarium? I used to have planted community tanks and although some plants would thrive and take over, a lot of them would die within weeks. I’m only using 6 watts LED lighting for 6 hours a day.

G'day Simon, Thank you for your reply. The Youtube video was very informative and interesting. I have a 2' tank with Red Cherry Shrimp and they are breeding well. I purchase 10 Dark Blue Cherry ship this week and I have them in a 1' Tank. Once I know that they have survived and breeding I will transfer them to a 2' Tank. In my 2' Tank I had a problem with Hair Algae but am treating that . It was suggested I use a Tube Brush to remove the algae. I have found that by using that I have removed most of it. Now that I have the best water parameters I can work on that. I am so pleased I found this Web Site it has helped me to get started in my new shrimp hobby. Cheers Perry

There's a shop not too far away that have cherry shrimp, although I've never been to see them yet. Is it worth getting shrimp through the post? I'd have thought it would be really stressful for them. On another note, am I wasting my time with the liquid carbon and plant food while I am doing regular and large water changes? I felt as if I was throwing all the goodness down the drain.

Thats all great news and it sounds like you are well under way! I know it is too early to think about the shrimps but just to make sure you know BEFORE buying; There is a £39 limit beyond which postage is included on ProShrimp so bear that in mind, may be better to order a few more shrimp and get the free postage, postage will be next day by 1pm signed for! This video has EVERYTHING you will want to know so is a great starting place (you may already have seen it if you have been looking at youtube) but the parameters they show are the right ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pO6iJPbmdk Of course we look forward to hearing what you have set up and glad to answer any questions! Tank size is really something that depends on what you want as they will be ok in any size pretty much. I started with a 15L and that went too well and am now using a 35L and the light would depend on what size of tank? Shrimps don't need deep water so bear that in mind as a lot of fish tanks are quite tall and really that means you have a lot of vacant/empty area, unless you only partly fill it? Simon
