I am not seeing any babies at this time. Hope they are still around. I did a water changed and dosed Shrimp Baby and ShrimpFit. Been clipping leaves with algae , noticed that the fine hair algae was growing on one side of the sponge filter. My light is off center as the plants are mostly on the left side, which tells me I have a lighting problem as the algae is growing only on the left side of the sponge. Reduced lighting. edit: I just now see two babies hunting around the foreground?

I reckon, do whatever you need to do to maintain the parameters you have right now for Tangerine Tigers. If GH/KH+ maintains the parameters, than that is what you use. If you think Salty shrimp is expensive, that's when you need to read my DIY recipe for remineralisers in the Water Parameter subforum.

G'day Simon, Thank you for your reply. The Youtube video was very informative and interesting. I have a 2' tank with Red Cherry Shrimp and they are breeding well. I purchase 10 Dark Blue Cherry ship this week and I have them in a 1' Tank. Once I know that they have survived and breeding I will transfer them to a 2' Tank. In my 2' Tank I had a problem with Hair Algae but am treating that . It was suggested I use a Tube Brush to remove the algae. I have found that by using that I have removed most of it. Now that I have the best water parameters I can work on that. I am so pleased I found this Web Site it has helped me to get started in my new shrimp hobby. Cheers Perry

G'day, I was advised to put some Amazon Sword plant in my tank. I purchased a piece of Driftwood with a Plant attached. I asked the very young lady in the Aquarium Shop what the plant was. She replied " I think it is Amazon Sword." I have taken a photo. Please could you tell me if it is Amazon Sword if not what is it. Is this O K for my Shrimp Tank.< Cheers Perry

Thanks Simon, I like a lot of plants as well although I think they’ll need keeping in check. The slime vanished after a couple of decent water changes. I checked the water just now and everything was slightly elevated so the cycle has started, I did a 50% water change. Im looking forward to introducing the shrimps but I’m in no hurry. At least I’ve got the plants to look at now.

Ok, continuing with cycling with filtered tap water for the time being but I’ve planted the tank today. I’ve also put a couple of guppys in to help the cycle. I’m also using liquid carbon and Evolution aqua plant food

I use a turkey baster to place baby shrimp food into possible hiding spots. Just to make sure they are getting the food before any adults get to it. It might be a good idea to do the same, and get the food to where the babies are hiding.

What you have there is an Anubias. Looks like an Anubias Barteri var. I suggested a Sword plant for it's fast growth characteristics to combat algae. Unfortunately, the Anubias is the complete opposite, it's a very slow growing plant. If you like it, keep it in the tank. But if not, return it to the shop stating that you were given the wrong info by them and sold the wrong item and you would like to exchange it with an Amazon Sword (or one of the other variety of plants I suggested). Almost anything growing on drift wood will be an Anubias. Swords grow in the substrate/gravel. That's probably a distinguishing feature between Anubias and Amazon Swords. Amazon swords (Echinodorus Bleheri) look like this Amazon sword var Echinodorus amazonicus looks like this...

One of these ... essentially a bottle brush. It's name is what ever you use it for. In this case it will be called "Algae brush" ?

G'day Crabclaw, Thank you for your quick reply. This is a photo from the side. I hope that is helpful. Cheers Perry

Hey Perry, from that angle it doesn’t look like an amazon sword. Swords generally have quite tall leaves. Does yours? It could be an anubias of a larger variety. Generally they are sold on driftwood or rocks. Could you give us a side angle? Nearly all plants are fine for shrimp tanks, so no need to remove it.

Oh, would I need to use just GH+? As I bought GH/KH+ a while ago, thinking that’s what I would need, and have never had to use it thanks to my evil substrate. I don’t really want to be spending another $40 on another product that I might not even need to use. Would I be alright just keeping it as is, so as to not complicate it further, and have more stable parameters? Or would GH/KH+ work, (sorta) as I think it raises the GH further... If you do think I need a GH+, then is there another brand that doesn’t cost heaps for a pile of powder? Anyway, thanks Simon!
