Ok so i did 1 final water change at 200TDS, and am now thinking about stopping and letting the shrimp adjust for a few days until Saturday or Sunday when i do another water change at 200TDS and check my readings again. Water Conditions:- PH - 7.5 dKH - 4 dGH - 9 Temp - 23C TDS - 295 NH4 - Unreadable N02 - 0.1PPM N03 - 10PPM PH4 - 0.5PPM My Nitrate levels are in the safe range although my Nitrite levels are un-changed but they are in my safe range so i feel it would be ok to leave it a few days, and let the duck weed do its job because that hasn't grown as much as im used too so someone asked about my tank filter which is integral to the tank design. it works through 2 cotton pads that it just under the water line of the pump section so water gets through into them. below them are 50 plastic balls that apparently allow for bacteria growth as well as breaking down any larger pieces of debris. below are pictures of the design. in the pump section there is just enough room for my 50 WATT heater which does a great job at keeping the tank within 2C of 23C. the Pump is on two thirds power setting. should i turn it up further? the Light in the tank generates what is termed as low light but thats what ive specified the plants which are all real to survive in when i was selecting them.

ok this is just a check post to see if the photo's will upload. this is the 'Drip Acclimater MK2' in its current form that failed. as you can see the pipe stayed in the hole but the sealant wasn't water tight. as I say i have purchased a purpose built 'Dripper' but i will try to find a bottle of non toxic waterproof silicone sealant at B&Q at the weekend.

unfortunately your totals come to $21.02 (£16.07) including Shipping. The dripper i've bought came to £12.01 including shipping. Ok so ive done another 3, 10% - 15% water changes 2 at 250TDS, 1 at 200TDS and my tank water is now at 300TDS and ive probably now run through 25 liters through the Zerowater Jug and im still not getting any TDS reading from the pre-mineralised water. However all though I'm not seeing any dead shrimp today i haven't been seeing as many shrimp even after feeding, only 1 or 2 at a time. im wondering if having brought down the TDS so quickly I've stressed them out and now need to stop for a few days to let them adjust?

sent now. I don't keep the filter in the water any more time than it really takes to filter the water (lifestyle dependent). my theory is that will extend the life of the filter and reduce any chance of smell.

unfortunately Simon is right we dont have anything like that with water... but my local brewery does these https://www.hogsback.co.uk/product/hogstar-5-litre-mini-keg/ i'll go back to the hardware store at the weekend and ill make a judgement on waterproof silicone sealant they have available. i don't know why my pictures aren't working maybe its my anti-virus i don't know. with regards to the zerowater filter... what im doing is im using the filter section to filter 2 liters into the jug section, putting the filter into another jug to get the residual water, remineralising the water in the jug & leaving to temperature adjust untill within 3 degree's Celcius of the tank water.

$4 Australian dollars. You're paying for the water, the container is essentially free. It holds 10 or 12 litres. You just need to cut a hole at the top to add your change water, and adjust the tap to let it drip slowly. Even has a convenient handle.

That's too bad, cause it's so easy to turn it into a dripper.

I have always filtered the water through the jug and then it goes into another container like a bucket (where it may sit for a few days) to be carried so I haven't had water sitting in it. I am not aware whether leaving water in the jug will reduce the life of the filter or not?? I only got the small jug so it only does 1L at a time anyway! Simon

GH 50-100ppm is 3 - 6dGH. That's a wide range. Can you narrow it down? Does it take 3 drops, 4 drops, 5 drops or 6 drops to start changing the solution's colour? Your parameters look alright now irrespective of the GH reading. Do you know what your readings were before moving the shrimp? You missed listing temperature. It's important to match their existing water parameters. So when moving shrimps you need to keep them in their existing water and drip acclimate them to their new tank to reduce shock. Moving them twice might into differing water parameters might just have been too much for some shrimp. Nothing much you can do know except leave them to adjust to the new water parameters. Just keep an eye on them for the next few days. Don't change water for a week.

Hey Guys, Im thinking of moving my Taiwan Bees, Black king kongs and Red king kongs together, my question is will the breed more blacks because its the dominate colour, or will it still depend on the male pattern/ colour more. I ask because I only have 4 reds left, kinda want to breed the colony but not enough tanks.. Thanks
  11. jayc
You will get more blacks and the occasional red. Each fertilised egg will roughly have a 75% chance of being a Black KK.

He is thinking .... "I wonder if this is food". Yeah, that's not the right sealant to use. You need silicone for that job. You might be able to find a small squeeze tube for example ... (BTW - That image was just copied from an online supermarket, and pasted directly into the text editor. )

ok another day another 3 water changes at roughly 250 TDS... Tank TDS now at 326 obviously im not checking water perimeters right at the moment because its only been a day. ive decided im going to buy the Big dripper because another bottle of sealant i probabley will need to do an entire covering would cost another £4.03 and if im spending that taking my total for the experiment up to approximately £10 if i exclude the milk as a general cost and it may not work. The dripper costs £12 to buy specifically manufactured so im just getting that. However i am willing to try any recommendations and invest another say £5 on something and some of my time to get it to work. simply because id like to see this working and generally see this thread as a way of to help other people who may experience the same problems as me, as well as get advice from other enthusiasts and this may help other people in a more cost effective (if not time consuming) way. This is the sealant ive used, i chose it because no where on it does it say 'toxic to aquatic life' just like when i was looking for paint when i painted some ornaments in my tank. https://www.diy.com/departments/bostik-specific-wall-glue-moulding-glue/3549212478605_BQ.prd unfortunatley ive tried uploading pictures from my mobile and desktop by trying to attached the file as it is, the file compressed to a smaller size and i tried to use www.tinypic.com but every URL address i tried to paste in wouldn't work. im wondering if its an admin thing because im a new member?
