I've been doing a fair bit of buying/selling lately (at least 5 trades per week, every week for the last 2 months) and I have 2 comments. 1) I prefer SKF related trading to Facebook groups/Gumtree because the people here are generally a LOT nicer and less obnoxious/suspicious. But there just isn't that much available most of the time. 2) I admit that while I've got stuff to sell, I've posted it on Gumtree rather than here. At first it was because I hadn't bought the subscription and couldn't post, but right now, it's mostly through sheer laziness. For my part, I promise I'll remedy that laziness soon and start posting my stuff here. Hopefully others will as well.

Along with a new name we need to slightly tweak our slogan - "The home for Shrimp Keepers" Suggestions? Needs to be short and punchy. Prize for the winner.

Hi all, just seeing who has a YouTube channel. Good way to see all the great tanks and awsome shrimp, also great for ideas on new aquascapes too. Mine is "Amatuer shrimp keeper Carter" Thanks

I'd love it if some of the native gurus collaborated to put together an Australian native interbreeding table (eg what breeds with what). I've seen at least one good example for the popular exotic shrimps. I know there would be a lot of question marks riddled throughout an oz native interbreeding guide but it would be cool to see and also watch it slowly be filled in as time goes by. Love n peace Will

Can't explain what causes this, but I had the same thing happening in my TB tank with multiple shrimp twitching and scratching pleopods with their back legs. It seems to be over now, and did not cause any deaths.

Cool looking shrimp! I love the arched back! Fingers crossed for the babies

Do you have a new filter that you intend to use for your new 4ft tank? If yes and there's nothing bad in your old tank you're worried about spreading, run it WITH your old filter in your established tanks to get the bacteria started. Filter squeezings from the old filter and swapping part of the old media for some of the new media in the new filter (take some bio balls, ceramic rings, cut the sponge) etc will also speed it up. I usually run the new filter for about a week (or more if you're got time or planned ahead and aren't as impatient as I am) like that before putting it in the new tank. Swapping part of your old substrate and plants will likely help a bit too. Once the filter and everything else destined for the new tank is in place, I usually give it a couple of days running with water and plants, with a small source of ammonia living (if it looks decently clear) or non-living. The day after everything looks like it's settled, I start water tests and adding creatures I don't mind losing. Umm... yes it's mean, but I use my least favorite male guppies for this, possibly snails if you have them and don't mind them in the new tank, or the REALLY cull shrimp. I will note that the guppies don't seem to suffer - the same ones have help start 3 tanks and are still alive and healthy. If things look like they're good to go, I'll slowly start adding the real intended inhabitants in batches every couple of days. If you're moving tanks and can take the old filters out of their old tanks when you have removed the inhabitants, you can put the old filters in the new tanks (along with the new filter) for a few days or a week as an extra buffer. I have successfully started up my last 3 tanks in about 3-10 days like this. The 3 days was when I was just transferring tanks - from a 30L tall to a 38L horizontal tank. Keep in mind, excessively disturbing the substrate of the established tanks to try to re-use as much of it as I could was the only thing that gave me trouble (small ammonia spike in established tank). This is just what I do, please don't take it as a guarantee that you won't have any issues or loss of critters this way... or even that it's a "good" way to start a tank. I do it because if I had to wait 2 months to establish a tank, I would never have any up.

How about start from the beginning. (I know we have some of this is draft form or better, I'm listing everything I can think of.) - Possibly - what general types of shrimp are available... ha, that'll be fun (I wasn't thinking of a comprehensive list - more along the lines of common options.) - Ideal and acceptable parameters for various breeds of shrimp - Setting up a new tank with an eye on those parameters; tricks, tips, and things to consider. - Reviews of commercial and home-grown/made shrimp foods/products/paraphernalia (I saw the threads with the start of such stuff.) - Shrimp life cycle, care, feeding, and breeding :basic things like colony size, sexing, culling, etc as well as more hard-core things like creating certain patterns or lines - "how do I make a pinto" kind of question. (For example, I've spent a lot of time searching for information on how long it takes a particular shrimp to grow from birth to maturity. I half gave up and decided to do my own observations and there are currently 2 batches of babies growing up in their own breeding box. I'd gladly share that info, but it'd not have any good pictures since I don't have the right camera equipment etc. I'd be willing to collaborate with someone who did.) - Trouble shooting common issues (molting problems, loss of color, high juvenile death rates, etc, diseases and ickies - I know there's a great thread on that already) The majority of that info is SOMEWHERE on the forum, it'd be wonderful if we could consolidate it and turn the information into nice neat charts like the water parameters one. (No, I don't want much at all! Everything isn't much, right?)

I don't know if it matters for others :P I suspect not so much - most people who are new to the forum are also newish to the hobby. They'd be less likely to have things to sell. I've had a fair bit of experience with aquatic stuff in the past and the things I'd be selling are fast to propagate - plants and red cherries. The reason I subscribed is because I thought SKF was worth supporting, not because I wanted to be able to sell. Besides, I suspect a free-for-all market would just end up like the facebook forums - lots of people out for a quick profit at someone else's expense.

Product description The features of V series super silent power air pump:Adopts high quality aluminum alloy to make its case. It adopts double damping system and noise-absorbing system. It is highly efficient ,energy saving, low in noise and safe.Double air chamber structure to produce large quantity of air and strong air pressure. It can work ateadily and continuously. V-20 20L/min 15W <40dB 110-115/220-240V 2.5kg 50/60Hz 230×185×180mm >0.02Mpa I have been in the need for a new ir pump following my cheap 4 outlet pump's despise. Since then i have been using two tiny single outlet air pumps to run three dual sponge filters and diy sodastream filter. I was recommended this product by 2OFUS for its performance and minimal noise output. Needless to say i had my doubts but began searching for a reasonable stockist with a decent price. Most places i found were selling this pump from $150-200 and does not appear that openly available. I ended up finding this pump for sale from a garden shop for $120 inclusive of postage. Upon receiving it i was immediately satisfied with the build quality as its quiet solid. Upon hooking it up to the same 4 pumps i was immediately impressed with the minimal noise distribution emitted from the pump. Gone are the loud vibration noises being replaced with a soft hum. In regards to the air distribution i think my sponge filters efficiency is going to increase ten fold leaving me plenty of room to hook more stuff up. I would definitely recommend this product for the noise and quality build of the pump. Do research though in terms of suppliers as there is a giant difference in price between most retailers.
