Showing off my extreme KKs. Just moved them into a new tank for them.

Some of you may remember the pics of my Caridina sp. 'indistincta' Type C from the Australian Shrimp Championship 2016. Here is how they look when they are really settled in.

Great colour variation and I love the contrast in the "skunk stripes".

Nice photos, thanks for sharing. That hybrid that has a pearly blue/black finish is my favourite.

Hey Fishmosy Nice looking shrimp mate. Just something off topic here. What are those tiny white bugs that you see flipping around in the tank. About the size of the white dot on that shrimps antenna. I have the same thing and was just wondering what they are?

Oh I love the white tips - I have 2 little KK's with white tips and 1 small white speck on their bodies. The tank has dark substrate and often the only way to find them in the tank is to watch for the flash of 4 white dots. I was wondering if they'd lose the white tips in successive generations.

Mine do because those are the ones I've selected. I have seen extreme KKs without any white, but apparently the shrimp become more and more sensitive as the white disappears - probably something to do with the amount of culling required to breed out the white and the associated decrease in genetic diversity. I like the white tips as they offset the rich black.

I've seen it done with cherry shrimp and it works well except for a lack of control over the quality of the shrimp. It may work well with glass shrimp but will depend on the type of 'glass shrimp', and particularly whether the shrimp require microalgae as food for their larval stages. If so, placing the IBC outside where it can receive some sunlight might be beneficial.

I agree, but not directly the cause. The ferts themselves are not killing the shrimp, but the constant & drastic change/swings in the water parameters from the ferts and large water changes. You have a 35ppm TDS change in a week, whereas in my tanks for comparison, there would be no more than 10 TDS change in a week. Of course my tank is mainly low light plants like mosses and liverworts. My high tech tanks with lush plants on CO2 only have fish in them. It would be a better idea setting up a small 10L tank with nothing in there but substrate and mosses. Go back to basics. Don't compromise the shrimp's health for lush plants. Besides, you'll be able to see the shrimps better in a low tech, low light tank with less plants. Good luck with your next steps.

I m not planning on making profit, i usually sell enough crs to shops for the upkeep of the rest of the shrimps. I have no problem culling bad shrimps, there are too many crap being sold in Europe, itis scary. No planning on expending either, going back to college in september and will have a desk in the shrimproom instead of a third rack. Had to sell 25 tanks 2-3 ago after i had to put on hold the building of a shrimphouse. I started the hobby when my son decided to get a goldfish lol, moved on quickly to planted tank and shrimps. Now my little daughter wants a fish tank and it wont be a goldfish this time !
