Thought it was time for an update. So originally this tank i bought as is (besides a few things iv changed) and it was running with shrimp so couldnt really change much at the time. It was originally setup on the 25/5/2014 or at least thats when the tank journal was made on here if you want to see it its titled "new 4 footer". So its over 2 years old now so the substrate was filthy. Long story short i had some major issues as you can see above so i went against the grain and took a risk so over the last few weeks/months iv been gravel vacuuming and holy $h17 im glad i did it was putrid. Tested ammonia nitrite and nitrate almost hourly for a few days following and itwas perfect. Ever since my tank has thrived and im bloody stoked now after the devastation i had before. Anyway the only thing that has changed about this tank is iv taken out the piece of UG i used to separate my boss bio media and replaced it with a filter mat And now onto the the important part CRS section is coming along nicely with the lowest grade is basically s+ whick are the tiger tooth and V pattern and I've got quite a few sss bubs too but too small to get pics atm The blue bolts are going OK not as nicely coloured atm compared to what they can show The tibees are going good. I started with a blue oebt x mumma mishlings and damn the f1 are absolutely nuts Then im planning to pick all the females out of the f1 and put 2 kk with pinto gene males over them Then we go to my new favourite the PRL. For some reason my phones camera doesnt pick up their leg colour too well Cheers for having a look [emoji1303]

just wanted to share how much Taitibees can change in very short times and why culling too young is not always a good thing. This little light blue speck went to full dark blue then to this in 6 weeks. Not sure what it will end up like. There are 3 the same just a little difference in depth of blue. These are from the Blue Taitibee x with a Tiger but I'm not sure if it was a blue or a blonde tiger. Last picture is mum.

Cuttlefish bones are made of Calcium carbonate. Don't know if the shrimps eat it. But the bones slowly breakdown releasing Calcium Carbonate into the water. You wouldn't be able to see it, except for maybe the first time you place the bone into the water, where you will see a small whitish cloud. Cuttlefish bones are not usually recommended in shrimp tanks. Cichlid tanks ,yes, and any tank that needs to maintain a high KH and pH. But it is too hard to control the amount of CaCO3 being released into a shrimp tank. And the constant fluctuation in KH, pH and TDS is not good. You could experiment with trial and error, with a small piece to see if you can find the optimum amount of bone to use where it does not raise KH, pH and TDS, but instead maintain a level that does not rise or fall.

Oh this little thing? Yeah it should be enough i think @jc12 Luckly i only have 2ftx1ftish of actual planted area! Breaking down the 8 pots in to plugs was the only painfull part. Planting the plugs was a breeze! Thanks dude?

I'll start with an update on the CRS and do the other sections over a few days. They are breeding nicely atm and got some really nice juvies coming up

I've recently got into mosses after receiving small portions of about 14 varieties from a friend as a bonus from a purchase. When they arrived I wasn't exactly sure what to do with them as before this I had only ever grown the basics (eg. Java Moss, Peacock Moss, Flame Moss, etc.) and all of a sudden I have rare mosses like F. splachnobryoides and F. zippelianus just sitting in clip-seal bags on my dining room table. Suffice to say I had a little problem as my tanks were full to the brim with other stuff, and as a stickler for quarantine I wasn't going to have them sharing the same tank. A lot of the mosses also needed high light, low temperatures and CO2. So I began thinking... and thinking... and thinking. And eventually I came up with an ingenious idea to give them high light, easy access to CO2, low temperatures and all the other things they needed, all while keeping them separate from one-another. I decided on growing them emerse (as I have had luck with Echinodorus and Cryptocorynes that way in the past). However, I wasn't too keen on using the soil mixes I had used before as they always absorbed too much water and ended up covering the medium in algae, so knowing this I decided on perlite instead and I would be mindful to keep the liquid level a lot lower than the top of the perlite to avoid algae potentially covering the mosses. Be mindful your perlite cannot fall out of the pot, however, as the pot I used had large holes on the bottom of it (I used filter wool to plug them). For extra growing help I decided to switch out water (which I had used when growing plants emerse in the past) for BioJuice (a seaweed mix for hydroponic use which promotes vegetative growth, not flowering or root growth like most) to use as the liquid, and for each pot which a moss to be contained inside a bag for humidity which I then put onto my verandah in a place where it would not be too hot, but would also get a decent amount of sunlight with the moss laid out on top of the perlite. This'll be a work in progress. It's not too clear now but I'll work on that later today and into the future. Better photos will come, don't worry! The location of the bags on my verandah. A close view of the set-up (excuse the fog). This one is already growing after about a week. View full article

Description aPUMP is an aquarium air pump for aquariums from 10 up to 100 liters volume and is designed to supply aquarium water with oxygen, the most essential and vital element. I set out to find a quiet air pump due to having all my tanks in my bedroom - you can imagine how annoying it was hearing a noisy air pump when you're trying to sleep! I decided to give the aPUMP a go considering the claim of 'most silent pump in the world'. What did I like about of it? It's silent - I actually couldn't hear it unless I had my ear really close to it It's tiny! - Slightly bigger than a 50 cent coin Has a suction cup Comes with some tubing and an air stone If you're looking for a quality air pump, that's close to silent, don't go past the aPUMP ? Hey guys and girls just wanted to show my setup. Firstly i want to say a massive thanks to Baz (disciple) for holding onto this tank for me so i could sort myself out. The setup didnt come with a stand so i started with this Then after a bit of reinforcing, some 12mm ply for the shelf, fronts and sides, a tin of stain i was ready to pickup the tank. Now coz the tank was running and had shrimp in that were coming with it i was crapping myself about getting them here alive and well anyhoo i got it here along with 90% of the water and started to setup Then once all shrimp mosses and driftwood were in place i added the light and panels and this is the end result So all in all im absolutely stoked with how it came up and the move was much easier than i thought ( although i pondered how i was gonna do it for weeks lol) so stay tuned and over the next week or so I'll show you guys each division and whats in there cheers for taking the time to have a look

Summary: Improve the way in which we can view product reviews done by members Description: To implement a grid like view of product reviews, similar to what we see on online stores with star ratings to make it easier to go through them, I plan on using the SKF Articles to achieve this and have promoted a few of the reviews but still need to work out how to display in a grid with star ratings. http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/articles/product-reviews/ All the reviews in the articles are linked to their posts in the review forum Current view to be replaced: View full item

Here is another video of my old CRS tank. Sadly this one did crash in the end. I am reasonably certain it was because I started dosing with CO2. The driftwood I used to make the "tree" was also found. I did boil it but I am willing to be this also caused the tank some problems. Either way enjoy my old CRS tank! I kind of want to get CRS again and give it another try but I also really want Tibees... So hard to choose! (I might get both and aim for red tibees/pinto) Sorry for the music. It synced up so I couldn't resist.

looks great dude! much easy to look at products. will it eventually have a search feature to narrow down what you looking for, food reviews, filter reviews, light reviews that kind of thing? or will you just use the main search bar for that?
  16. NoGi
Yeah. The main review page is some background on the product and should be done in a template form and then in review tab below are user reviews much like the way it's done on Amazon. That could be a little more free flowing and up to the reviewer.
  17. LaxLogic
Since you all seem to love videos and shrimp! Here is a bit of both! :D This is cheating a little since it was back when I was breeding these guys but you get the idea. I only had one female and when she molted it was ON! They males went nuts looking for her!

Description Aquael Oxypro 150 Air Pump is a modern, ultra quiet aerator for the aquarium. Wattage(W) - 2 Max Flow Rate (l/h) - 150 Pumping depth (cm) - 200 I needed to upgrade my air pump to something that could handle multiple tanks and like my review on the aPUMP it needed to be silent due to it being in my bedroom. What did I like about of it? It's extremely quiet Can run multiple tanks I'm currently running three tanks (45cmx30cmx30cm) on the lowest setting with Biospon filters but it could probably run a lot more tanks with the flow rate turned up! Low power consumption Flow rate control knob What did I dislike about of it? Diode is bright and I had to cover up it up because it annoyed me at night I had to put a small cloth underneath otherwise it had a small hum to it Note: The dislikes above are due to my situation so if this air pump was used in an area where the noise didn't matter as much then it's not a problem. In fact the noise of the bubbles popping at the surface tended to be more annoying. This post has been promoted to an article

HAHA. Anyway @roscoeb, here is an article on how calcium and magnesium work together.... http://calmag-c.com/2009/01/how-calcium-and-magnesium-work-in-your-body/ "Your body also uses magnesium to help convert food into energy and helps your body absorb calcium and potassium. In fact, calcium cannot be absorbed without it." The magnesium keeps the calcium soluble otherwise it clumps together into a mass that is not easily absorbed by the body. The article is in relation to human bodies, but it works the same in fish or shrimp when talking about calcium.

The Tiger class was somewhat lightly represented at the show but 1st place was taken by Bob Marsh with some very well-coloured Tangerine Tigers (Caridina serrata). These beautiful shrimp were also awarded Reserve Best in Show. Congratulations Bob! 2nd was awarded to SMT for some lovely OEBT (Caridina mariae) that I suppose were Royals with very deep rusty females. Unfortunately I couldn't get a single photo of those shrimp, not even a terrible one. The "Any Other Shrimp" class is exactly what it sounds like. We'd love to see many more Aussie shrimpers submit something for show so that we could expand the range of classes but right now this is where Pintos, Fancy Tigers and anything else that doesn't fit the previous classes (Native Species; Cherries; Crystal Bees; Shadow/Taiwan; Tigers) have to compete against each other. SMT was awarded first in this class for some nice Black Pinto, of which I only managed to photograph 1 shrimp. They were a really nice group. Barry Lee was awarded 2nd for some lovely red Fancy Tigers which were a fantastic group of shrimp. 3rd went to Newbreed for a group of fancy tigers which again I couldn't get a pic of. What an anticlimax...

Was Great to see you there Bill!! Hope you didn't get into too much strife!! Was wonderful meeting you @KeenShrimp! Will be watching your updates and journals with interest! Sounds like great developments with your tanks! Hopefully a date for 2017 will be locked in within the next fortnight, so we have plenty of advanced notice for travel plans etc.

Oh I'm so glad I just found this topic! I got a Buce as a gift (I think it had blue somewhere in it's name, also perhaps brownie?) and it never did very well at the top of my tank so in the last trim I moved it. I looked in the tank last night and WHOA, it looks like it's about to flower. I'm very excited to see what the flower is going to look like :)

Thanks Bill. Next we move into the BB section. Full section shot And some of the inhabitants

I just use a safety blade and scrape - it comes off fairly easily. I run 3 lights 8 hours a day. It did help when I had a break with lights off after 4 hours but I don't bother anymore.
