A few months ago, I lost a lot of shrimps due to high temperature (around 32°C). So I decided to make an aquarium chiller for my nano (20L). My requirements were : - Noiseless - Able to reduce by 5-7°C a 20L aquarium - Economic electrically - Part of the canister filtration system (no visual inconvenience) - Not pricey (under 100$) - Shrimp compatible (no copper used) Becarefull : Aluminium is used to "exchange" the heat. It can be toxic if used in pH below 5.3 During my initial research, I found this interesting article : http://www.shine7.com/aquarium/chiller.htm I changed the peltier module used, here are the calculation : For a 400W Peltier, if I have 4.9V in input, and the local temperature is 32°C, the temperature of my 20L aquarium should be 24°C for 40W used. Here are all the needed parts : - Peltier module : TEC1-12726 (50x50mm 400W) around 20$US - Aluminium Water cooling block (76x68x8mm) I prefer this one over the classic 50mm one because it's bigger so better thermal exchange - 12V 240W Power supply (transform AC to DC) - 100W LED driver (0.8-28V output) (adjust the tension on the peltier module) - 2 Fan speed controllers (3A DC-DC step down converter) - 12V Thermostat (the chiller is working only when it needs to) - Heat sink (Noctua NH-D14) Based on http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2789&page=4 , this heat sink is perfect - A 50x50mm copper sheet to make the connection between the heat sink and peltier module. The peltier is bigger than the heat sink base, so I thought it's better to have this sheet to reduce the heat of the Peltier - 6mm silicon pipe (it's the diameter of the water cooling block) - 6=>12 water pipe coupler - Thermal paste - Electrical cable All the parts together : The total cost is around 100$US (greatly depends on the heat sink, i bought mine 2nd hand) The final build : Just started to make some test, it's working perfectly! The only drawback is that it reduce the outflow of my canister filter. If you have any questions :)

So first Hi All and Hi NoGi. My avatar is pic of one of my taiwan bee red wine. I am quite newbie in shrimp breeding, I started with shrimps only in january 2016, alhough I returned to aquarium hobby after 20 years. I always had some aquarium till my 18 years, so yes, I am now 38 YO. I made my first nano in january 2016, it has only 20 litres. It was established mostly for my 2 sons. I have a boy twins and they will be soon 3 YO. This first aquarium has mix of several colour variations of N.Davidi, 7 Celestial Pearl Danios and 4 Corydoras pygmaeus, 2 Clithons sp. and 2 Neritina snails. Together with my sons we feed fishes and shrimps, and my sons really like shrimps and snails. Everytime they pass around this aqua, they stop there and look at the shrimps and snails. @zn30 May i ask which brand you use if it's not the one above? I'm going to buy some mineral powder as well :) Thank you so much for all your help so far :D Is this the other one? https://newbreedaquatics.com.au/salty-shrimp-shrimp-mineral-gh-kh-850g.html My post merged. Lol Just noticed the salty bee is for soft water shrimps and the other is for cherries so it answers my question. Maybe i should get both and use salty bee for crs and use the other for the cherries?

@Chickini I use the mineral balls and the boss mineral powder in all my shrimp tanks. Boss Aquaria Mineral Powder is an old sea mud that is packed with all the essential minerals for shrimp moulting, breeding, colour & general health. It will also help to improve water quality Dose: 1 spoon per 50L 1-2 times a week as stated in the following link https://newbreedaquatics.com.au/boss-mineral-powder-100g.html I think the salty shrimp powder is a different product, I have not used the bee shrimp range see link for use https://newbreedaquatics.com.au/salty-shrimp-bee-shrimp-mineral-gh-1000g.html?category_id=41

Being in Melbourne I think it shouldn't be a problem for most of the year!

I've raised it as well with support so will see what comes out

Nice, I used to keep yellow cherries in the past. Just remember not to mix cherry colours in the same tank.
