The Kmart tank has been pulled down shrimp wise lol. This is the Kmart Tank now, And this is the cube as of tonight! I am fairly confident i am getting close to being shrimp ready. Ammonia is 0-0.25 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Ph 6.4-6.6 My tap water suprisingly has a TDS of 128 KH - 4 and GH 7-8 I will swap it over to RO water once the cycling process is finished and at that time will rescape it so look out!

New Features: When you mouseover the badge showing who liked a post, you will now see a larger list of who liked that post. You can still click to get the full list. Ratings now show half-stars for the average (for example, if one user votes 3 stars and another 4, it will show 3 and a half stars) and there is now an indication if you have rated something. A "Preview" button has been added to the post editor which shows how the post will appear after BBCode processing. Tabs show how the post will appear on desktop, tablet and mobile. Users can now choose to ignore notifications for being mentioned in posts by particular users. You can now filter searches by specific forums/categories. Activity Stream enhancements: The filter dropdowns now have an "Apply" button for better usability (previously you had to click outside the dropdown). The "Expanded/Collapsed" toggles are now clearer. Hitting back from a clicked item in any activity stream now remembers your position and loaded results.

Hey there, and thanks for helping. I have a 1.5 gallon that currently has 1 ghost shrimp, 1 cherry shrimp and a solitary male guppy. The guppy leaves the shrimp alone, and the shrimp get along fine. I was wondering how many shrimp I could keep in this tank? It is filled with plants and rocks (water wisteria and 3 Marimo algae balls). The shrimp seem to enjoy it, as they swim around and clean the plants. I do water changes about every two days, not becuase my levels are high, but because I enjoy it. The tank has a filter and air pump. pH is constantly 7.8 and Tempurature is always about 70.

Anything you add to the tank will effect your water parameters in some way. All things in moderation and your water change regime keeps the tank balanced.

OK sorted the colours out too now. I think this one is done.

you can host them on a website such as photobucket and use the link to post them here

just wanted to share how much Taitibees can change in very short times and why culling too young is not always a good thing. This little light blue speck went to full dark blue then to this in 6 weeks. Not sure what it will end up like. There are 3 the same just a little difference in depth of blue. These are from the Blue Taitibee x with a Tiger but I'm not sure if it was a blue or a blonde tiger. Last picture is mum.

I was catching out some babies tonight and have found about 6 blue tinged Tibee type shrimp. Hopefully they will turnout a bit like the picture of Mum ( picture 6) still a bit small to photograph but the blue is obvious although not as deep as those pictured above. There is hope yet for that blue line!

I drive a diesel, not that wouldn't be a problem, however the garage door goes up then I start the car with exhaust going straight outside, very rarely wind blows into the garage we face in a Northerly direction. The air pump is on the tanks side of the garage down low to the ground. I have always had my tanks in a garage setup with no problems from previous car emissions.

This is what they look like removed And now they are out I can start working out where the baffles and divider sections will be. This is my planned markup of the sump layout - open to comments or suggestions to modify or improve the design. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I drive front in so don't usually have an issue with emission as the exhausts are pointed outside the open garage door. Yeah, I get black vinyl of eBay for all my tanks. Sometimes I'll just take it to a banner place and get a small cut from them. Sometimes free, sometimes not.

I m not planning on making profit, i usually sell enough crs to shops for the upkeep of the rest of the shrimps. I have no problem culling bad shrimps, there are too many crap being sold in Europe, itis scary. No planning on expending either, going back to college in september and will have a desk in the shrimproom instead of a third rack. Had to sell 25 tanks 2-3 ago after i had to put on hold the building of a shrimphouse. I started the hobby when my son decided to get a goldfish lol, moved on quickly to planted tank and shrimps. Now my little daughter wants a fish tank and it wont be a goldfish this time !

Thank you guys. It is not a blue bolt, it is a taitibee. When you are crossbreeding it is important to remember the genetics behing each shrimp. As an example the shrimp in the next 3 pictures are not twb.

Havent posted for a while but but have been breeding a lot and did some work in the shrip room to had a second rack. Here are some pictures of the results of my crossbreeding projects. Some pictures of my crs and Prl

I added a few tanks to my little set using different types of filter, i m quiet impressed by how fast the ugf managed to clear the water.

Work has started on the poster, any comments appreciated. The article that the poster will be attached to will include real photos of the various graded shrimp as well.

So you went to the Local Fish Store and were seduced by a lovely Cherry Shrimp. The shop assistant said sure you can keep them with your fish - WRONG The shop assistant said just throw them in the water after a 4 or 5 minute float and adding a bit of tank water to the bag- WRONG Okay Cherries or Neocaridina Davidi are very easy to look after and can tolerate a wide range of water conditions and are infact very forgiving of our first attempts at shrimp keeping but lets try and do it simply but properly. First there are very few fish that you can keep with shrimp- some people have luck with various fish but generally if it fits in their mouth fish will eat it with very few exceptions except maybe the Otto. So step you need a shrimp specific tank planted preferably with moss. If you are going to only keep Cherries then any inert gravel will do. You need a very good water conditioner to treat the Chlorine and heavy metals so something like Prime When you get your shrimp home you will need to take your time acclimatizing them to your water conditions so it is preferable that you drip acclimatize the shrimp over an hour or 2 or if you are unable to drip them then pop 10-20ml of tank water into the bag every 5 minutes or so to get the water equal in the tank and bag. Release your shrimp and watch them explore –prepare to be mesmerized and want more. So it can be that simple and if you have a male and female they may and probably will breed but let's face it we really want to become proper shrimp keepers don't we? We want to learn all this new lingo like TDS, GH, KH etc. What foods to feed, what water parameters etc etc etc. Luckily the forum has all the answers and if you can't find the info just ask there are a lot of friendly people here willing to share their knowledge with you. This is a very simplified care sheet with much more involved information available but it can get you started. Water parameters for a Cherry Shrimp A fully cycled tank is paramount pH 6.4 - 7.6 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates under 20 but preferably under 5 KH 0 - 10 GH 4 - 14 TDS 80 - 200 Temp 18 - 24 So a good water test kit is a very necessary item. A TDS pen (total dissolved solids) is important. Simple care needs Shrimp need stability in their water parameters, sudden changes are not good for them especially later if you change over to the harder to keep species. Weekly water changes of between 5 - 20% depending on the population density of your tank are necessary with the new water nicely aged and as near to the tank conditions as possible. Good quality and variety of food comes next. A mixture of commercially prepared and fresh fruit and veg (blanched spinach, broccoli, kale, fresh bananas, rock melon ) plus dried or blanched leaves like mulberry leaves, IAL (Indian Almond leaves) but all fed sparingly as shrimp graze on the bio film in your tank and don't need a lot of supplementation plus feeding large amounts can lead to planaria and ammonia spikes. It's a good idea to take out any left over food after a few hours except the IAL that can stay in the tank until just veins are left. There are several good threads about food and nutrition, Water parameters and also a glossary for those pesky abbreviations so look them up. Good luck with your new found hobby and don't be afraid to ask questions, it's the only way to learn!

I just found a green cherry in my yellow colony! :congratulatory: I't's not as green as your's, Marcus...but it is definitely green(ish) I've got a crappy foto of it and you can see the difference to the yellow cherries up the top...and I swear that in real life he looked much greener than that. Must keep looking...maybe I find more and then I can breed my own! :triumphant:

Looks awesome dude, very nice colour! What happy dance did you do? Lol :encouragement:

Thanks ALL, it is a patient process.. Androo, yes, the colour achieved isn't via "the half way point"....but via variations of colours...the green cherry I've got is derived from a yellow having a green variation, a choc having a green variation and a blue velvet having a green variation....through several generations, and via a selectively picking the best out of the colony, you attempt to improve the coloration through the selective process...... I have 3-4 that have the same green intensity, and approx. 7-8 with a lighter green tinge.... these are all achieved from 5-6 generations, with 100's of culls etc.... In terms of purple, yes, the variation exist in the cherry family .... just a slow & difficult process.... I was working on selectively breeding them, BUT was slack, and it all turned to the wild form, as I didn't cull and selectively breed them as well as I should have :-(
