I have few blue velvet. 4 males and, good surprise, 1 female! I thought I had none left and was trying to crossbreed the blue velvet with my carbon rili. This morning I took out the female and 2 males and put them in a special tank. The guys were dancing all around as the girl was trying to hide. I found a nice molt in the tank, so I think it's a good sign I may have a chance the colony will launch. Pray for me! I also noticed that the female is completely blue, a nice blue, as the little guys are from a lighter blue, but show red headgear. Should this last or do this red will disappear once they grow holder? It seems one of the male is completely blue, but the 3 others show this red headgear. That's funny and I like that too.

Thanks to @Disciple for all the shrimp that arrived safe and sound last week with so many super-generous freebies and up-sizes. I was excited enough to receive them, and finding the extra and bigger tigers was just awesome. They're all growing fast, especially the chocs, and a little red shrimplet stowaway is still going strong too! The light blue tigers were sussing out the yellow neos straight after joining the tank... ... but pretty soon they decided that lowly neos would no longer be permitted on the driftwood and started patrolling and doing sinister poses. They are super-cool to watch. They've done a lot of colouring up since then but any more photos have to wait until this weekend when I get my camera back!

The way I cycled my last tank was to clean the canister filter I had running already. I filled up the tank with treated 50% tap water &50 RO water after adding my soil and additives. I kept the heater at 28 degrees with no lights and tried to keep the ph at 7 until the nitrates peaked. I did a 80% water change with RO water and turned down the heater. I also put my plants and mosses at this point. I kept it running another week checked that the Ammonia nitrites are 0 and nitrates were under 10 then added some culls. Since they were fine after about a week I started putting in the other shrimp.
