Hi everyone , Scott here , some of you may know me from fishy forums years gone by , some of you may know me from the facebook shrimp/aquarium/fishy pages , i even have my own little facebook page called aquarium gardens australia . I've been keeping fish of all sorts for years now at one time even breeding many in my shed set up . got sick of all that and got myself a display tank to enjoy with tank busters , once again got sick of that so opted to inhabit the tank with rainbow fish ...... with rainbows came the odd plant , and another , and another ......... then i found i was enjoying the plants more than the fish themselves ...... so was my wife , so i got her a little 2' set up with a led light and some plants , then some better plants . in this tank was pacific blue eyes and whiptails .... (though i tried to talk her into getting shrimp from the very start ) one day when buying some plants for our tanks the guy had some shrimp in his tank , knowing what would happen i asked him to throw a couple in the bag lol . Well bec fell in love with the cherry shrimp and i soon got her some more , before you know it she kicked out the fish and it became a dedicated shrimp tank lol . I also got rid of my rainbows and now only have a tetra community in my display 6x2x2.5 , I also plan to stock it with all our culls . so anyway we now have three little planted shrimp tanks , Bec has 2x 2footers and i have a little nano beside the bed , we still have the large display and plan to set up one more little planted shrimp tank (Bec has her heart set on some blue dreams ) thats us for now , we dont know alot about shrimp at all so hoping to learn a bit here .thanks here are some pics of our humble set ups

Hello Fellow ShrimpKeepers! I started a planted tank approximately two weeks ago and the tank was cycled as of yesterday. I decided that I would have a crack at Red Cherry Shrimps as my clean-up crew. They're such delicate and peaceful creatures, I just knew I had to have some. I plan to keep some shrimp specific shrimp tanks later on, but for now I'll be growing this tank out. My tank currently has 4 glowlight tetras in there, which I made the mistake of buying because I couldn't tell the difference between them and glowlight (hengeli) rasboras... I looked for the word glowlight at my LFS and said yup, they're the ones. My second mistake was putting RCS in without knowing that glowlight would absolutely dominate my RCS. I put 3 males and 3 female RCS into the tank, one female was obliterated within a minute, another male injured and 4 others being bullied. I hope to trade away my glowlight tetras in due course, but am looking for a source for more RCS. They cost me a pretty dollar each which I thought was a bit steep considering they can be pests at times. I'm located in Sydney, Australia, so please let me know if you've got some RCS you're willing to let go. On another note, does anyone know how hengeli rasboras will treat RCS? Otherwise, I may have to give them up and go with something like Darwin Algae Shrimp or Ghost Shrimp. Without further ado, I thought I'd share a photo of my tank: 1. The setup: 2. Filling the tank up: 3. The plants growing out: If you're interested, please check out my Tank Journal at the following link: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/12-tank-journals/1016801-chandy%92s-sanctuary-%96-komoda-%91skyclear%92-4ft.html

The plot thickens..... After only seeing the one yellow/ golden notopala in the tank even after stripping the tank and moving everything into a new tank I could only find the one snail. I had thought that the other two must have either died, hitch hiked in the timber and that why I never saw them even after putting the log back into the new tank, or they had wondered off. personally I was betting on the wondered off option while hoping on the just hiding option. After getting the new dark shelled guy (name named Bolt, because of the way he "bolts" all over the tank) , I happened to spy in my tank gazing a small little notopala with a yellow gold shell. Since I could see all three snails at once I know that the little guy is definantly not the main gold one I had been seeing. Also the level of shell degradation is different. And this little guy has a rather helpful scratch on the side of his shell which makes it distinguishable for now. But now I am really confused since the first 3 snails I found alive and put in the tank where all pretty much the same size, where on earth has this little tacker come from? I doubt breeding, even if a pregnant snail had dropped its baby as soon as it was placed in the tank. I don't think in just a couple of short weeks any baby snail could have grown so quickly and its shell I am sure should be in better condition. This is the little guy in question, sadly I couldn't get a photo with all three snails in the same shot since they where scattered in different places in the tank and I prefer not to be picking them up and moving them all the time. New guy Bolt And Goldie who seems to have taken a real liking to this end section of the log, which of course is far from the front of the tank.
