Finally after so much readings into shrimpy thing, i decided to start one. went to my local aquatic pet store and talked to the owner of what kind of tank i wanted.this is the initial setup that we came up with. the drift wood will be eventually tied with moss, on the top middle perhaps some stem plants, and the bottom right some carpet plant.so we used amazonia as first layer, then scattered some bacterial powder on it, and top it off with another layer of amazonia. poured some purify on top of it. and let it dry cycle for 3 days.stones and driftwood to be put in after 3 days.so back at home, a day before putting in the stones and driftwood, i washed them and soaked them in water for a day.this is what it looks like after water had been put in. i made a little adjustment on the stones placement. now the waiting game begins. 21 days of cycle before i tie the moss on the drift wood and putting some carpet plant, probably fissiden fontanus. lights will be around 6 hours per day.

Been a long time since any breeding activity in this tank, I'm pretty certain the females I have left are barren ;) So it's time to add some new blood. Got some new CRS females from Aquastar in SA along with some pinto mischlings and small batch of Panda's Tank has had a good clear out, bolbitis & Java fern had taken over. My totto filter also got a good clean as it had been off for 9 months after a big storm left us without power for 6 days. Back then I only cleared and started up the 2213 that also was on the tank. With the new stock I finally got around to making a decent divider using stuff I had in the garage. Tank area still needs a clean up but for a day's work I'm happy. And very excited about this

I never gravel vac, mainly because I believe the stuff in the gravel is beneficial for plants etc. It's like free mulch. Personally I find less touching the tank the better. Maybe leave it for a few days and see how it goes? What do you feed? Have you got a photo of this cloudiness? A small water change and cut back on foods that break apart easy but hard to tell. Sometimes you just have to leave it be for a few days so it can settle. The other thing I noticed was that it occurred around about the time the weather started to heat up. What is the temp of tank? Warmer temps means bacteria grows faster. Post a photo if you can.

I noticed slightly cloudy water after I introduced my CRS. Two things I noticed: 1. They were digging up the soil 2. I may have overfed To me there is definitely a big difference between the look of the light shining through the water like sun rays vs. cloudy/murky water. My mind immediately went to the gravel vac when you mentioned it...what makes you gravel vac?
