Larry mate! Stop mucking around with nitrate pads and water changes. They are not working fast enough. Get the Macropore asap. Here is a reference ... http://shrimpkeepersforum.com/forum/topic/4431-nitrate-removal-product/#comment-68820 Dean himself used in on his tanks that measured 80 and after 3-4 days it was less than 5ppm. Just saying ...

I LOVE natures natural Christmas lights, well that's what they remind me of with their bright flashing backsides and twinkling away light lime green fairy lights. If you haven't guessed I am talking about Fireflies. I adore seeing fireflies and get a real kick out of watching them actually flying and flashing,(they are surprisingly fast little flyers too) and thankfully we are now back into firefly season, so I have been able to go to a couple of local places I know where these living gems can be found. My sister used to tell me that there where fireflies in Ross Creek at Yeppoon, but that's a little far away for a quick Friday evening field trip. I know for a fact that they can be found along the Fitzroy river, but alas almost all the places you can get to are either to well lit by houses and street lights or just inaccessible. So instead one of the best places we have found that is not too far to travel is Mt Archer. Because Mt Archer is a Tourist lookout it has lights up there and now after cyclone Marcia has a lot more glow lighting it up from the city below. BUT fireflies can still be found there and if you go a short way from the lights and just stand still watching in the shadows you will see the fireflies flashing, provided you also stay out of any strong winds. So without further ado, here's some photos of the result of my night time field trip.

I hope that your solitary healthy shrimp managed to hide a few more healthy friends in your tank. Many times I think I have removed every possible shrimp or fish fry from a tank only to look in around 5mm of water and see more still wondering about in a now almost empty tank.

Thanks mate @Abhishek you have missed one macro nutrient/mineral. Potassium! Apart from phosphorus and calcium, potassium (K) is the third most abundant mineral in shrimps. You can research the benefits of potassium for your blog. Another feedback for your article ... tell the reader where to get those macro and trace elements. Should I feed it ? Should I dose it? - in general, macro elements needs to be provided in food and dosed in to the water for absorption. Trace elements can be provided in food alone. Any article that tells us about the important nutrients for shrimps, but does not tell us where to find it is only half complete.

µs = slack shorthand for µS/cm which is the units for Electrical Conductivity (EC). The most common conversion from EC to TDS in salty solutions is TDS = 0.5 * EC, so in this case 250-270 EC = 125-135 TDS (in ppm) Great looking snails!

Adding a mesh filter intake will cut the flow down a lot too. And you will definitely want to have a meshed intake filter, or else the little shrimplets will get sucked into the filter. If you ever add a chiller, that will reduce the flow even more.

At first the flow will be strong, over time gradually when the canister is used over time it will drop back abit

you can always cut the flow a bit with the inline connectors it comes with
