Age of Aquariums (AoA) have generously donated some gift vouchers for a new photo competition. The theme of this competition will be “something unique, something different”. The judges are looking for photos that are different to the usual side/top view of the shrimp standing around not doing a lot. The winners will be selected by AoA and their decision will be final. Prizes: 1st: $100 AoA Gift Voucher 2nd: $50 AoA Gift Voucher 3rd: $25 AoA Gift Voucher Competition Rules – failure to abide by could result in disqualification: Entry is open to any Australian SKF forum member with a post count of 10 or above 3 entries is permitted per person; however you can replace your existing entry with a new photo if required prior to the competition close date You may only enter photos you have taken personally Photo must not have been posted on any other forum or social media platform before Entry Details In order for your entry to count you must follow these steps: Upload picture to the appropriate area of the gallery Insert gallery picture into the comp thread You’ll know if you have done the entry correctly as a) image will be in the gallery and b) the inserted image in the thread will have a SKF watermark on the LHS

Hi Guys, My RCS seem to have halted breeding over the last couple of months. I am not sure if this is heat related or I am just not getting them in the mood. All parameters are fine, with a TDS of around 150 (I am keeping them with CRS). I am thinking of doing a 20-30% water change on the weekend to see how that goes. Anyone have any thoughts on how to set the scene? As a side note I was in HK last week and wow it is so impressive walking around and looking at all the brilliant shrimp places, the colour and quality of the shrimp is nothing I have seen. Very impressed.

Thanks guys . I'm not going to grow serious plants - I had beautiful leafy plants growing in that tank but took most out so I could see the shrimp. I Ve been down the home made LED lighting but even with the highest rating I could buy the light didn't get to the bottom of the tank - it's very wide and very deep . I have Aqua one plantglo lights in my shrimp room and I'm happy with them so I might take one of those and see how it looks on the tank. I thought there was an adaptor that would allow LED tubes to be used if I decide to keep the hood. I only have half the hood on as I don't use the overhead filter that came with the tank and would prefer it gone altogether because it holds a lot of heat in on hot days even with the lights off.

Ineke, i fit an UP Aqua Pro Z into my AR126 hood. So a 90cm Pro Z would fit your AR980 hood. but the old light fittings need to be gutted and removed first. A drill bit and a hack saw might be needed to cut the plastic hood, to fit the power plug through, but its not difficult for a home DIY handyperson.

Temperatures in Australia makes it easier and cheaper to keep a tank warm, than it is to chill it. A heater is so much easier and cheaper to buy than a chiller. Let me know when anyone has a pair for sale @ $50 ea. I have an empty tank waiting to be filled.

Can't find my 4' LED write up but I used the same stuff as with my old nano

I would recommend the Up AQUA Pro Z or even the U series if you eventually want to grow serious plants. Can't comment on whether they would fit exactly on your tank given its odd size but with my 60cm pro z on my 60cm tank, I have to keep the legs inside the dimensions of the light so it will sit on the tank (hope that makes sense). If not, you could always suspend the light on wire from a frame. I'm pretty sure @NoGi built a cool frame for his lights using box metal from Bunnings.

After a few weeks of sitting around doing nothing while getting money sorted the time has come to put everything together finally. On Thursday i have my electrician coming to put the new circuit and powerpoints into the garage. YAY I got the filter for the 4ft tank and cycling that at the moment. I got a new light for the other 4ft to use for the turtles i shall be getting in a few weeks. Then i just gotta get the glass and silicone the dividers into the 3ft tanks and set them up. move the shrimp from their small tanks into their bigger tanks. So it is all coming together very nicely apart from ripping one of my Ligament in my hand :/

I've got 3 berried now. Feeding paramecium (you can see the "trails" in the pics). Have begun a daily watch for larval release as I'm fairly confident these will need transfer to salt to develop.

Just a reminder to follow the entry details folks. This comp is just as much about learning to use the Gallery feature here on SKF as it is about capturing that great shot. Entries so far are great, keep them coming. I might get a photo in myself.
