Gading of Caridina logemanni, Caridina mariae and Taiwan Bee Shrimp has been a hot topic recently on various groups and there hasn't been a consistent application of grading across these shrimp. There is a lot of hearsay but nothing documented anywhere. As a result, to ensure we maintain a consistent approach to grading here and on our Facebook group, I'm putting forward draft gradings for feedback from the SKF community. Grading TableGradeDescriptionExamplesHigh> 90% total body coverage of the identifying colour the shrimp looks crisp and perfect to the naked eye may still have some small imperfections under magnification. Medium70% - 90% total body coverage of the identifying colour the shrimp is not as crisp also has some slight imperfections in the overall appearance with the naked eye. Low35% - 70% total body coverage of the identifying colour the shrimp has the appearance of being patchy and imperfect the overall appearance with the naked eye is poor. CullThe shrimp has reached a point that it is barely recognisable as belonging to the intended group also genetic and physical deformities etc that mean the shrimp should be removed from the general population. Championship: The shrimp must appear perfect and under magnification show no imperfections or blemishes. The perfect example with full body coverage of colour and pattern for the given variant. If anyone has examples that we can use in the final grading information, please attach your watermarked images here. Also, should the quality of the offspring be representative (or better) of the parents grade?

This tank has much more of a focus on the planted side of things, but it contains some Chameleon a Shrimp and hopefully soon it will have a group of DAS and maybe Darwin Red Nose Shrimp, just waiting for the weather to be a bit warmer for them to be posted. Here's the latest full tank shot: and a photo of it on startup, the substrate has since been changed and the rock work altered some. The plant list is currently: Ammania Senegalensis (just been trimmed and not visible as it is in the back right corner) Anubias Nana 'petite' Hemianthus Callitrichoides 'Cuba' (HC) Hydrocotyle Tripartita 'Japan' Hygrophila 'Araguaia' Java Fern 'Windelov' Java Moss Ludwigia Inclinata 'Cuba' Ludwigia Repens x Arcuata 'narrow leaf' Ludwigia Repens 'Rubin' Alternanthera Reineckii Mini Mini Pellia Persicaria Sp 'Sao Paulo' Pogostemon Helferi Pogostemon Stellatus (new addition and hasn't grown into visibility, back left corner) Rotala Colorata (just been trimmed and only barely visible back/middle) US Fissiden so quite an extensive plant list for a small tank like this, but I love the overgrown jungle look and like the challenge of growing so many different plants that all have different needs, trimming requirements and growth rates. at the moment there is about 10 Chameleon Shrimp in there, although I've started spotting Shrimplets in amongst the moss so hopefully there is a few more now. as for fish, there is a school of 6 Rummynose Tetras with a rescued Cardinal that tags along, a Neon Blue German Ram, 2 Siamese Algae Eaters and a couple of Bristlenoses. some livestock shots:

thanks @The Tech Den always shop from you guys anyway when i need stuff

pretty good, and they have made short work of the little bits of BBA algae I had. I lost 6 DAS in the first couple of days, they jumped out of the tank and I found them behind the stand unfortunately dried out, but I since have read that is normal with these guys. I will probably order a few more and another lot of Red Nose as they seem more interested in the thread algae that I have more of an issue with in this tank, but I will make up a fly screen cover on a frame to put over the tank for the first week until they settle in properly. Now that they have settled in I haven't had any more 'jumpers'.

I'm working on something at the moment but with drawn pics. I'd prefer to have actual photo's for reference though to remove any ambiguity. But before I can proceed, need to ensure we are on the right track with the grading info above. Oh and we are looking at a little less than 10 levels of grading. lol It's hard enough to get agreement on the 4 above outside of SKF.

As a guideline for everyone to use I really think it is going to be really useful. It is taking away a lot of guess work and subjectivity on grade your own shrimp. ATM everyone will have their own way of deciding what is high grade and what is low grade. So I like the idea we have a standard, at least with sales in SKF. Good work ‌@Paul Minett and ‌@NoGi
  10. NoGi
That's true but we need to start somewhere and by having this documented, we can then work on replacing subjectivity with consistency.

Looks good. I don't think you can assume the offspring will be representative of the parents. You could still get culls from two high grade parents.

I've just got a Fire 45x27x30 tank today. I haven't had any plan for it yet. Probably do a Iwagumi style with carpet plant :)

Haha nuh it's not to competition standard. I plan on getting another nano to enter a few comps next year, the collection of plants I have in this tank will be good to supply it with. this setup is about 4 months old, so still growing it in and shaping it but really happy with the way it's coming along. substrate is a mix between 1mm natural dark brown gravel and ada amazonia powder. I don't like the look of amazonia as the round balls look too unnatural, but don't think I'd go to the effort of mixing them next time as it is mostly covered by HC now anyway. if you want to try any of the plants in your tank then let me know, I'm happy to give you whatever you want the next time I do a trim
