Gading of Caridina logemanni, Caridina mariae and Taiwan Bee Shrimp has been a hot topic recently on various groups and there hasn't been a consistent application of grading across these shrimp. There is a lot of hearsay but nothing documented anywhere. As a result, to ensure we maintain a consistent approach to grading here and on our Facebook group, I'm putting forward draft gradings for feedback from the SKF community. Grading TableGradeDescriptionExamplesHigh> 90% total body coverage of the identifying colour the shrimp looks crisp and perfect to the naked eye may still have some small imperfections under magnification. Medium70% - 90% total body coverage of the identifying colour the shrimp is not as crisp also has some slight imperfections in the overall appearance with the naked eye. Low35% - 70% total body coverage of the identifying colour the shrimp has the appearance of being patchy and imperfect the overall appearance with the naked eye is poor. CullThe shrimp has reached a point that it is barely recognisable as belonging to the intended group also genetic and physical deformities etc that mean the shrimp should be removed from the general population. Championship: The shrimp must appear perfect and under magnification show no imperfections or blemishes. The perfect example with full body coverage of colour and pattern for the given variant. If anyone has examples that we can use in the final grading information, please attach your watermarked images here. Also, should the quality of the offspring be representative (or better) of the parents grade?

So, I got this 38L (10gal) tank with ghost shrimp. Im going to do a leaf liter bottom around 2.5cm thick with oak leaves. Anyone else do it?

hey zorba, im 100% certain you should not be adding quick start and superchlor and prime. the quick start is a bit if a useless product. especially if your cycle is established (ie no ammonia and nitrites anymore) and prime is a dechlorinator as well as heavy metal detoxifier so you should not use superchlor as well. I've no idea if it would suddenly cause die-offs but it's worth considering that if you have been overdoing the prime and superchlor then the sodium tetrasulfate (or whatever it is) and other additives could be accumulating more and more each time you do a WC. I'm no expert but I am doubtful that you be having so many die-offs in a short period because of moulting issues. Moulting issues will cause gradual casualties.. Unless you are finding dead shrimp that are partially-moulted and died while doing the process then I can't imagine that this would cause so many sudden deaths but again this is just my somewhat noob opinion. Anyway i do know you should just be adding prime and not using those other 2 products. The superchlor is an inferior duplicate and the quickstart isnt useful at all at this stage. You might want to do a single large WC and see if that resolves your situation (do it very slowly make sure it is a drip and not a trickle - ie 3+ hours to complete) love n peace will i also think disciples question re discolouration is worth considering! you could read jayc's wonderful disease/diagnosis sticky thread in the shrimp health subforum and use a magnifying glass if one dies again (hope not!) and check it out for any illness. love n peace will

Yep it comes with PAT Mini, that's why I asked because it didn't seem right to use 2 filters on a tank so small, taking into consideration that I'm a beginner and I will start with easy to grow plants and fish. GotCrabs suggested to go with jungle style and he's got a point, I will experiment a bit with jungle style. Well in my country I don't have a jungle so I'll visualize something out of my head and hope for the best :)).

I have recently started keeping Cherry Shrimp and I am fascinated by these little quirky crustaceans. I love to watch them going about their business. I have kept fish most of my life but have never kept crustaceans and I am looking forward to the ongoing challenge/ learning experience.

Okay got that terrible disease we all get a bad case of MORETANKITIS. It started with the plan to keep it very basic and minimal. A while ago I got some really nice driftwood from Fishmosy and couldn't resist using some. So it is still evolving and was done a budget of $0. I decided to split the 3ft tank into two sections and remebered that I had some glass dividers spare and thought too easy they are already drilled. Went to get them and then remembered I gave them to the guy who bought three 4ft tanks of me....Damn!!!! What now???? I found some fairly thick clear perspex. Cool this will work.......Now how can I add add holes for flow between the two sides? I know I will cover the holes with plastic mesh. Searched high and low couldn't find any. Ahhhhhhh!!!! I threw it out a few weeks ago.......Damn!!!! I was trying to think of what to do when I noticed the top of an old fry breeding box. So I cut out a rectangle at the bottom and fitted some plastic flywire to stop shrimplets getting through and fixed it in place. Works a treat. I then cut the perspex divider a couple of mm less then the width of the tank and split some old air hose which I fitted onto each side. This allowed me to jam it into position firmly enough to stay but also allows me to take it out if I decide to take it back to a single tank, without having to try and clean up silicone. Driftwood, mixture of shrimp sand, black gravel, small river pebble, clay balls, grey slate Hang on filter, air filters So I have used some bolbitis, sword, val, java fern, windolove, Native moss, riccia fluteans, subwassertang. I intend to put some hornwort and elodea at the back and am also going to add some marshwort which I hope will grow up to the water level and give a waterlily type look. I still have some plants to go in at the back to get some height but here are a few pictures. You can see the lid of the fry saver used as a vent. Be kind and remember this was done on a zero budget One of the pieces was a branch so I decided to use it and make it look like a weeping willow and attached it to a piece of slate then added some java moss I decided to hide the air filter behind the large piece of driftwood.
