Today (while you were asleep overthere ) I've had a visit from Jay and his girl who are in Europe at this moment. It was very nice meeting them and so good to talk shrimp for a moment I've had some amazing gifts from them and as I always like to do, let's put it to the test! Of course I'm a little on his side now, but I try to be objective about it. First of all, the package is really nice and professional. Especially the idea of making the back transparent, so you can see what's in there is very smart! So I put it in one tank for example, were I just way overfeed them with Nettle the other day. Nevertheless, they attacked it like never before. That's a good sign to me. Most of the time the need to get use to new food is my experience, except when they really like it. You can see the other food in the back. So far so good, when I discover more I will update this post.

Carbon is used to absorb unwanted medication, toxins, minerals, chemicals, etc. It does so indiscriminately. It will take out good minerals as well as the unwanted stuff. So unless you need to remove things like toxins, or excess meds, then you don't need it, yet. Where as, more biological filtration is always beneficial. You can replace the carbon when you actually need it.

Yes it was fishmosy. The sword had also grown fairly well and the bolbitis and sword had thrown a few pups. The annubis petite has grown quite well and now that more light is able to penetrate into the tank it will be intersting to see if the plants that were not getting much light will grow even more. There was also some riccia fluiteans that had grown and was clumped in with the duckweed on top of the water. I have also added a few spikes of the two different types of rotola that I got from Neo into the tank.

Also in Cairns, Bob took me to a man made water hole where Oscars are found (Oscars as in the fish from South America that gets to approx. 30 cm). We counted eight in the 10 mins that we were there but unfortunately I couldn't get a decent shot. In flood times, the pond overflows into brackish water (with Jacks and barra, ect.) so the Oscars seem contained for the time being. You can see the rainbows in the same pool in the shots below. They were the biggest rainbows I've ever seen - at least 15cm in length. Plenty of food for the Oscars. Also lots of lilies in the pond.
