Tank update- they haven't had snow for a couple of weeks and as soon as it hit the tank they were out.

I tried searching with a range of different search terms and have found something VERY VERY cool (and scientific!) about neos. Effect of Temperature on Biochemical Composition, Growth and Reproduction of the Ornamental Red Cherry Shrimp Neocaridina heteropoda heteropoda (Decapoda, Caridea) - http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0119468 there are some neat charts in that journal - i'll have to look over it carefully when im mentally fresher but i've just had a quick skim over it and aside from establishing for certain the common knowledge that incubation/gestation times are reduced at higher temperatures - it also seems to infer that there is a higher proportion of ovigerous (egg-carrying) females at 28 degrees than there are at 24. i'm not 100% sure about that though because i need to do take more time and do some searching to understand all of the terminology. the journal doesn't address seasonal variations but to me it seems that that might add further weight to kiz and other's suggestion that ornamental shrimp have less response to seasonal triggers. anecdotal evidence suggests there must be a response - too many people here have reported a seasonal slowdown for it to be ignored! it'd be great if someone more cluey than i could summarise that journal for us (hint hint kiz, jayc, fishmosy and others im sure!! lol) but i'll have a go myself tomorrow anyway. love n peace will

Not to be out done by Newbreed I thought I would share my CRS colony. I think Jamie wins because he has sold some and I haven't removed many. Both of us had months of no breeding and then within days of each other we had berried mamas and they have just kept breeding. The quality of mine is not great although there are a few nice SS in there. I have some juvies from another breeding program that are much better quality and I will add some of them when the numbers increase. The tank is an Aqua one 980 with 4 sponge filters and a canister with ultra violet light in it. This is the tank kept cool by 4 computer fans and generally sits at 22 rising to 24 on really hot 40 degree days but usually only sits that high for an hour or two.

Ineke pictures like these of tanks full of shrimp are very bad for my wallet. Keeps making me want and buy more shrimp. I could sit in front of a tank like this for ages.

Careful, you bet it you may lose it!! I was going to say there has been no change, but that would be wrong. I run for four hours in the morning, off for around seven hours, then back on for another six at night. This was different in the past, being a solid eight-nine hours, but can't recall exactly when I changed it! Phew! I think your nut is safe!! Lol

I haven't been paying it enough attention but it is just powering on!! One thing I have noticed is a lack of algae growth on side of tank. Thinking the plants must be removing nitrates pretty well.

In the past we have purchased juvies at a small size, low price, and unsexed as was a good way for seller to make the spawn manageable. For jarring out we have used the suction cup betta barracks before, beanie boxes on heat cord/mats, small Chinese take home containers floating in tanks. Pretty much anything you can heat, but would need daily water changes

I was going to say an oxydator aswell but i would have to honestly say the UP Aqua planting scissors because i am always using my kitchen scissors and stresses the crud out of me that it might have something on it which will affect my shrimp when i am trimming my plants back so they would be safer and alot easier. great comp btw EDIT: just so you one at the top of the page when you open it http://newbreedaquatics.com.au/planted-tanks/aquascaping-tools/up-aqua-planting-scissors.htmlit says they are plating scissors :)

Why not Dixie party cups ? Or the large Chinese containers ? Or possibly the clear plastic storage container with a sponge filter

I took some a few pictures of my CRS today. Below are the 3 that turned out the best. IMO the shrimp look quite a bit nicer than when I originally got them (see original post pics). I haven't seen the berried female in the last couple of days. Hopefully she is still carrying.
